Probably a wiring problem - trying running a wire straight from the battery onto the black wire on the ignition coil (leave original wires on there aswell). Also check that there is an ignition feed going to the distributer aswell. Again you can run a feed straight from the battery for this.

These are for checking only and if it starts then you know what the problem is. Dont use this as the proper repair.

If this dont work then it is probably related to the ECU but try the simple stuff first.

There is power going to them...

Ive already checked that...

Do you think it could be the electronic spark control in the ECU?

Theres a relay under the dash that will turn the ECU on when you switch the ignition on - Check that as the alarm guy may have tinkered with this when installing the alarm.

With the car only having done 36K i cant see it being something like the electronic spark control. But more likely something the alarm guy has done.

Make sure the ECU is getting an ignition live.

How did this fault come to be
I have seen the same kind of fault on S2's with large intercoolers where the intercooler has worn through the wiring loom that runs across the box session, grounding the switched side of the coil

One-way of telling is to remove the king lead from the coil and turn the ignition on and off and see if you get one spark !!!

Check the integrity of the green wire from the coil to the ecu

Cheers

Steve

hello all. the car in question is mine and it does have a bigger intercooler, a GRS one. i have all the things listed above, but i have now resigned to the fact that it is probably something really stupid like a loose wire. methinks its time to call an autospark!

just out of curiousity does the cam shaft turn the distributer.
when mine knocked out the first thing i check was the spark and there wasnt any so i though no prob its an eletric fault.

this wasnt the case and was the symptons to a much larger story. belt had jumped causing the valves and piston contact and in the process snapping the cam shaft in the centre. result no spark or compression
