Default Less lag on my RS Turbo

New topic for my lag issues to keep it clear.

Got a 2.0 ZVH with huge amount of lag.
really want to get some decent boost @ arround 2500 or just above unlike the 3500+ i have now.
i've got a stage 3 turbo ( 0.48 exhaust housing, cosworth comp. wheel , 360 degr. bearing )
Whould it be better for a quicker spin up to put on a standard turbine and housing ( 0.36 ).
Doesn't have to run silly amounts of boost, arrond 18 psi.
Or just go to all standard Turbo ( for now ) wich spins up quick enough ( so i've heard ) on a ZVH engine.

Thanks

my t34 car comes in around then, and thats a 1.6.

Is the cam timed in ok, what cam is it? Is the wastegate penny sealing, is the housing cracked?

It's got a kent 35 cam with adjustable pulley but hasn't been set up right, before i had the adj. pulley there was the same problem.
Can the cam of a little result in such lag?
Had the Turbo of earlier this year and no kracks were vissable.
Wastegate seems to be closing fine to....

will get the cam setup right and see what the results are then first.

Thanks.

Well, did some testing today..

In 4th gear holding brakes and pushing trottle for a few secs.

Boost was like this.

2000 rpm : 2 psi
2500 rpm : 6 psi
3000 rpm : 14 psi
3500 rpm : 19 psi
4000 rpm : 17 psi
4500 rpm : 17 psi
5000 rpm : 17 psi

Doesn't look to bad i think.
But when i'm accelerating i've got boost @ say 3000 rpm on my boostgauge but nothing happens for a second or so and then it starts pulling.
Also i'm like 1000 rpm higher then so i thought the turbo wasn't making any boost from 3500 and on but the gauge tells me different.

Could this be solved by a good setup?

Not really...

Had it on the rollers a while ago but then i had cooling problems so the operator would't flat it out a few times during setup.
i know ignition was ok and it was rich all the way.

Wanted to know first if the problem i'm having now was due to a setup problem or to a laggy turbo.

Will get a RR setup coming.

I think 3000 ish rpm is where you should be seeing 20+psi, if running correctly.

Try do the boost test again, with the actuator pipe disconnected, then see where it starts making boost,
then you can wire the wastegate shut, and do it again.

But on both tests, keep your eye on the boost gauge, and only do it in small amounts, and dont let it boost past the boost you want to run.

Hi Gregor,

It's a shame we live a bit far away from each other. Otherwise you could come over and feel/see how mine boosts with a std turbo.

When shifting quite quickly through gears I have almost no lag.

If you fancy the drive come and bring me a visit, we could fiddle around a bit on those "deadly machines" and compare how they run and all....

Have you got a decent temp sender by now you twat??

I'll try that Fiecos Dan but what can i see from testing this?

Hej Mark,

Yes.. i'm really curious about how your ZVH is running.
Just might pay you a visit so i can feel how it is meant to run

Think i'll get it setup by Hurricane or so coming month so at least my cam- and ignition timing and the fueling will be bang on

And for the sender.... i'll get another one tomorrow.. haven't had time to get my arse to the ford dealer yet

Ey Gregor, surely mine doesn't run like it should by now, have to get it set up properly but for now with little too much fuelling it runs pretty well. But it also feels like there could be lots more power coming out of that crazy thing.

As for the temp sender, you don't have to go to the Ford dealer, any decent autoparts shop should have these senders as they are commonly used on lots of vehicles. You just have to get the right colour type sender. Mine for instance runs on a pink one. ( :gayflag: )

If you go to Hurricane, please tell me how it goes and if they leave the impression that they now how to get the fueling right. Set-up wise it's a shame we live in the Netherlands, not many good tuners here who can tune a RST.......

Hej Mark,

I've replaced the temp sender, also have a pink one now.
We'll see how it goes.

Replaced the turbo for a standard T3 and is far more drivable now.
starting boost at just over 2000 rpm and absolutely no lag after gearchange.
Just have to see how long it lasts with some increased boost.
Have to set it up now anyway because 1 blew my headgasked and fooked my cilinder head due to running to lean

Got a standard head on it now with standard cam but the cam turned out to be fooked as well so gonna trow in my kent 35 today and see how it goes...

Hope to see you at landgraaf for a little sprint action

Definitely without a doubt get it setup.

The price of a setup comapred to what you must have spent on the engine is a good reason to get it looked at.
