Check the connections on the ignition switch, could have a poor connection or faulty switch causing excess voltage drop. Also worth looking where the button start is wired into, make sure the connections/joints are ok.

on your starter motor you have two wires one main power feed and the other one which will be the problem is connected to the starter motor solenoid. first time you start the car or if its left for a while it will start but if you stop then try to start it straight away it wont start. i bet the stud the wire connected onto is loose the heat from the exhaust down pipe always causes this to happen. only remedy for this is to somehow weld the stud or buy a new starter motor and heat wrap the down pipe.

ok yeah the cranking live goes to the wires on the ignition switch, so obviously this shows that the problem is further up the wires i.e. the switch?

I have the same problem at the moment. After a good run 'sometimes' the car doesn't start. I just had the self-starter serviced after re-building the engine, so I was going to give a try by disconnecting the cold start valve. i'm suspecting it might be causing a fault... we'll see
