I think all ERST's have a slight crunch going into reverse as there is no synchro ?, people suggest popping it into 2nd before going for reverse I think.

The problem with crucnhy reverses is common to most cars. They crunch because unlike the forward gears, there is no synchro-mesh, its a straight gear on gear mesh.

TRY: pushing the clutch in and waiting for 2-3 seconds then selecting reverse, i bet you theres no crunch (the theory behind it being it gives the gears time to stop spinning)

AND IF IT does: you are either a lazy muppet and are not pushing the clutch in properly , or the clutch isn't disengaging properly (could be a few reasons why)

This is another way of stalling the gears before selecting reverse

No, they have auto adjusters on the pedal. They are common to break down, and its also common for the springs to start snapping on the pressure plate, meaning the clutch doesnt disengage properly.

Try what i suggested further up first, you would be surprised......

To stop it crunching select 2nd before you put it in to reverse it works everytime and never makes a noise

As i said its to do with the gears in the box spinning, you will find when the engine is cold it does it less, because the gearbox oil is still thick and cold.

Trust me, hold the clutch in for 2-3 seconds everytime before selecting reverse and you should never hear a crunch again
