Default Braking Problem

when i want to slow down mainly at high speed the steering wheel moves left and right in my hands quite harsh and takes awhile to actually stop. where as before my brakes were shit hot for a escort lol.

i have cossie rear brakes on this, not drums, if thats any help.

i looked at the disc and pads and they seem ok and the fluid level is fine.

any idea's or things to check?

cheeRS

some people say when you put rear discs on that you need to have a larger master cylinder to cope with them

maybe some people mite be able to shed some light on that?

have they just started doin this or was it when you put the rear discs on?

Sounds to me like a warped front disc/discs as you are only feeling it through the steering. As you mention there is also a clunk when turning i would get the balljoints, track rod ends etc etc checked for play as these could also lead to brake vibrations.

Vibrations caused by excessive run out in the rear brakes are usually felt through the seat/floor.

Not really mate - warped discs. Chnage them, wheels balanced, problem most likely solved.

I had a problem on my car which progressively got worse, vibrating when driving between 70-80, and really bad when braking, scary to an extent. I thought it was warped discs.

Put a different wheel on, problem solved

Try swapping wheels, failing that its probably going to be warped discs

More often than not warped discs, a Ford favorite

Check ball joints, tca bushes and rod ends for wear, as warped discs put

more pressure on them.

Also i found out on my first erst that the steering coloum bushes had worn

too, causing lots of vibrations also.
