Default Another question please......

Can anybody tell me what years the Escort Large Turbo model were made, ive seen a few cars on an 'N' plate that i think are large Turbo models

I was under the impression that by this time the T35 was being used i.e Smaller Turbo application?

Thanks in advance!

Dan.

T34 is a big turbo car
T28 (25) is a small turbo car.
The small turbo ones were some M and all N reg's and a few P's for that matter. Some people get their late ones converted to T34 big turbo ones.

Everyone calls the big turbo escort cossy turbo a t35 because it half of a t3 and half of a t4 hence t3 1/2!!! however the actual turbo is called a T34-(t3&4 together). The turbo has on it TBO34 and the proper garrett part number is a TB3403 w/c (water cooled).
People also call the small turbo'd cossies T25 as the turbo is fairly similar looking to the T25 (fiesta turbo) but is actually a T28 or TB2807 w/c which is completely different to the T25!
RS500 is T4 (T3/T04E w/c)
2wd cos is T3 (TB0361)
4wd cos is T3 (TB0384 w/c)
Fiesta turbo is T25 (TB0250 or TB0239)
RS S2 is T3 w/c (TB0355)
RS S1 is T3 (TB0345)
RS200 is T04E/T31.

Which only goes onto a 'M' Plate doesn't it?

Just wondered really as car's like Mike Rainbirds, and Martin Hadlands are on 'N' plates and obviously push out 400+bhp, the reason I say this as I didnt think that 'small' turbo cars could be raised that much BHP??

Thanks

Dan.

Yeah I didnt word it particularly well, sorry mate! So I take it that the cars mentioned were converted then, does it cost much to do this at all?

Whats the difference (obviously the Turbo size) between the 2 models of Escos then?

The smaller turbo'd models had different engine management- Ford's own EEC4 system as opposed to the big turbo ones which used Weber/ pectel etc etc. To use this EEC 4 loads of changes were made, and also changes were made to the whole car, to make it a nicer and better performing car in standard form.
The injectors are bigger, but cannot be changed for greens, blues, grey etc etc. As were some of the engines sensors.
The furl rail and fuel regulator is different.
The inlet manfold is different.
The throttle is larger.
The intercooler was changed.
No distrbuter, just coil packs.
Different map sensor.
No coil or ignition amplifier.
Head was modified as was cam cover & belt cover.
Oil pressur pick up system was completely changed to allw better spray pattern onto bottom of piston crowns.
Exhaust mnifold- turbo was changed.
BHP peaked at 227@5750rpm as opposed to @6250 on larger turbo models.
Externally fuel flap and mirrors were from esc mk5/6 face lift.
Badges on back were changed, and the suspension was also altered.
It also became an option to have the car with no whaletail.
I think it was made a little more user friendly due to Ford not needing to meet certain criteria to enter the WRC homologation crap, hence no charge cooler or water injection etc as with the larger turbo models.

You can convert car to 'old cossy' mansgement and I think people chrge from Ł1000 -Ł2000 depending on whether you change the turbo, and on the spec of the conversion. I would go bigger turbo then straight for Blues for around 380bhp.
Swapping straight over to std spec will make you slower, and going for greens and chip etc will only give you the sort of drive that you would get from a nicely set up chipped small turbo model!
