hi there, what shocks and springs do you prefer on an escort cosworth for both handling and look , because i am very confused what to do?

i wouldnt spend £500 on Gaz coilovers id rather spend £500 on Koni's and Ahmed springs.

what about the gaz adjustable shocks with their springs (not the coilovers ones ) , have someone used them , what do you think about them? are they good quality? i've heard that these lower the car by 30mm.

25mm roughly, I've got a picture before the kit was put on somewhere.

Good for road use in the UK, the roads round here are rubbish.I've got the fast road springs & the Koni's on full soft front & rear & its still a big improvement over standard. Oh & the front end is fully Poly bushed.

Never been in a car with Coilovers so can't compare.

And what do you think about Bilstein shocks ?
They are not so expensive and I think they have a far better quality and damping results than Konis...

On my Escort I have Kayabas Ultra SR shocks, even these ones are better than Koni I think.

I have a Wolf suspension kit (Bilstein shocks and Eibach springs). The ride is superb!

Better than the Koni / Apex setup I used to have on my previous one

I don't rate Bilsteins, as they are not adjustable.

The problem is matching the Konis with springs that do not suit it's damping rates. When you do do this, the transformation is unbelievable compared to cheap springs....

Depends what wheel (offset) you have . Fitting Compomotives in 8x18, ET15 will negate this. However, if you have wheels with the original ET25 offset, then you will need to tweek the spring platform with a hammer like this:

My old wheels were 8 18 e/t 25 but now i have 8 18 e/t 15.They have allways missed the wheel but the spring platform is above the tyre and the car seems to seat high its on koni shoks with graham/g springs and koni rear springs. does this seem odd as its doing my head in why it sits so high

Do you think i should change the springs to ahmed spring or change the lot some think must be wrong

you've also got to watch if lowering it too much (more than 20mm) that your egine mounts are in tip top shape - as the more yuo lower the more you increase the angle of the driveshafts from the front dif to the hubs and they can easilly pop out when you accellerate if the engine mounts are getting a bot long in the tooth, swap them for a new set of ford ones for comfort - at a set of vibratech ones for fit and forget but they do introduce a bit of vibration into the cabin.

Lets see some pictures of your idea of "high". "Slamming an Escort into the weeds" will copletely screw the ride and handling. The GGR springs usually sit the car nicely IMO and are not too low to cause any handling / reliability woes.

If you lower it any more, it will fuck up the handling and cause front drive shaft failure if the car has any power .

Mine is on coilovers and is not much different to yours!

easy way out of it then is to get a fat bird and seat it in the back with her head down
Thanks. i may think about new springs just for the back end as the fat bird will eat more than the car on supper unleadded.
