changing pinto engine
hey, my name is David, i'm from israel.
I have some questions about pinto engine. ihave 2000 pinto engine if i put Cosworth head in the engine but non turbo or injection , i want to stay with carb.
it will give me something ? more power? or it will be best to buy to this engine new cam and forged pistons? i what something like 130 hp, its enough to me
thanks
David

Best way and the cheapest is fit a performance cam,4 branch manifold, ported head, twin 40 carbs should see around 140 bhp
cossie head can be done but needs new raised top pistons, cams, exhaust manifold, carbs, loads of rework on head and will cost loads more

I run a pinto in historic stage rallying. The bottom end is standard, just well built, lightened & balanced. The power is in the cylinder head. Mine is properly ported, polished with group 1 valves etc. With a Kent RL32 cam & twin 45's it makes a genuine (I see all sorts of crazy figures quoted) 150hp @ the wheels @ 7000revs (around 175/180 at the flywheel) and pulls from 3500 revs. For road use you would use a milder cam to make it more tractable and still get 120/130 @ wheels with a good head.
No need for forged pistons/ steel rods etc unless revving beyond 7000/7500.

I have done your modification before .... let me tell you what you will need...First of all you don't have to raise the pistons as from what you said ... the block is the standard pinto which runs at 9.2 : 1 compression ratio... if its a cosworth block ... then i reckon that you will have to go for the forged pistons as the compression is less than 9. . .If you want more power go for forged pistons and go to some engineer and put valve pockets in them...once you are done with that you will raise the compression to arround 10 something.... A nice set of Webers 40 DCOE with short reach manifold will do the trick .... then its a question of jetting them up .... you will need the right arrangement to get the best performance out of the engine....If you're thinking of putting in some camshafts please recall that you should not buy them for the TURBO version of the Cossie head... you should search for cams which are suitable for the Aspirated version of your head...... keep that in mind ... otherwise... you 're better not messing about with the cams....

what are ou says about this cam?
me only problem is that i need to buy the cam from us.
in ford transit engine PINTO type NBA i has compression under 9? becuase in autodata it says 9.2.
forged pistons is to expensive for me at this moment.
