Remove plugs.

Fill cylinders with water.

Replace plugs.

That should hold it

Neil.

I have on old inlet valve with the stem bent at 90 degrees (you'll need to heat it to do this).
The stem sits in a block bolt hole, the edge of the valve head then engages with the ring gear.
Made this in about 1976 and have used it ever since.

When removing the flywheel bolts i normally just give the ratchet a whack with the hammer without locking it the flywheel at all and that has worked every time for me

thats what a mechanic here said to do

problem is all my valves are in the head and i dont think removing the head gasket and taking a valve out to bend it is a good idea

spadge thats a good point but its the bottom pull bolt that is tight as fook

mains bearing again comes under rebuilding a engine to take the bottom pully off

snap-on dont even do what stu shown on display

not with the type that i am talking about it won't. basically, when you pull the trigger something inside spins up until it has a load of momentum. it is then released onto the output shaft with such a whack that it shocks the bolt undone. takes a few goes, but it works.

there are 2 types of wazz gun, maybe the one that you will try is the other type that will just try and turn the nut/bolt at the same time as shocking it. either way, with the inertia of the flywheel and the friction of the pistons and stuff, the crank will probably not turn.

I use what Nick is on about, can do it with the crank out of the car and don't have to hold it still, called an impact gun.

Also useful for tkaing final drives off diffs when holding them by hand!

To be fair, although an impact ratchet "Can" work, he will still need a locking device or method to put it back on to 200NM if its done out of teh car.

I just leave it undone and put a postit note on the cam cover saying "remember to torque bottom pulley after fitting" to remind myself.

Are you saying you wouldnt trust your customers to do that properly?

screw a bolt into one of the top bellhousing holes, pop a wooden wedge inbetween the flywheel and the bolt, and as you undo the bottom pulley bolt itll feed the wedge in the gap and lock it.
