Hi All,
I have searched the posts and then searched the car and I cannot for the life of me find any number underneath the car.
There is a set of numbers on the front casing though none align with the last 5/6 digits of the chassis (see photos). I have zero history with the car and desperately need the engine number for an inspection tomorrow.
Cheers.
Thanks for the reply Christos - there is so much stuff in the way I can make out some numbers but not what seems like the engine number. It looks like it will fail the inspection again as they insist on "sighting" the engine number.
Does anybody have an actual photo of precisely where there number is please? You can amend it, whatever if peeps are concerned with scamming etc. I researched more and found this photo from a French site:
I am presuming it is either the "Numero Telaio" or the top part of the "Codice.?"
The other stamp on the bottom of the block:
I cannot find at all.
your chasiss number is taken from your engine number.
especially early on on the 205 engine they were inspected and the best castings were taken and delivered to Cosworth ,so there is no correlation between your chassis number and when your car was built
Ok - it failed the inspection as the engine number could not be sighted from below/ with wheel off etc. the engineer believes it has been repainted and the number covered.
I now have to attempt to view it from removing engine items from above - obviously the air box/ various hoses etc. A photo will do so fingers crossed.

What is the inspection for? Is it something like the yearly MOT test here in the UK or is it because you have recently imported it?
Imported into Western Aus. Needs to be inspected x 2. First one is based on Aussie Design Rules (yep side impact bars etc) with the 2nd like the UK MOT.
Apparently there is the "Cosworth" block number above the water pump - I have looked and tbh there is not much to view with so much in the way.

Sounds like the Motor Vehicles Dept in WA are trying to make it as difficult as possible for people importing cars into Australia! Someone else was asking on Passionford a while back about any components which may contain asbestos in a Sapphire Cosworth.as that was a problem as well. I used to live in Adelaide and the cops were pretty hot on catching people with " non Standard modifications" on their cars. I had a nice V6 Ford Capri mk1 and I got pulled over and told to change the steering wheel which was smaller than standard and the Alloy wheels as they were wider than the original ones! Got a defect sticker but had some mates who helped me out till the inspection. Changed them back again and never got stopped again luckily!!

LoL
Thanks for the funny reply.
Yep - i think that they are picking on the smallest things.
Some great news though. I found the engine number as stated above the water pump. Thing is, it was not obvious at all with the metal face not grimy but I decided to attack it with some meths and I saw a speck of a number and kept on going. After a few minutes of what seemed like wasted rubbing, the number started to appear. The block is a YBP so it has been changed at some point.
Many thanks to all who contributed - job done (onto the next issue to get the car registered for the road)!

The last time I was visiting my Brother-in law in Adelaide I went to a good car show with him and there was 1 Sapphire Cosworth on display which the guy had imported from the UK which was road registered but not sure what is needed in WA compared to South Australia.Hope it goes ok and you can start showing some of the Aussie muscle cars how well a little 4 cylinder Cosworth engined car can perform!!

Does anybody have an actual photo of precisely where there number is please? Or maybe I can find it while running the vin check https://epicvin.com/vin-decoder? You can amend it, whatever if peeps are concerned with scamming etc. I researched more and found this photo from a French site:

I think that "Numero telaio" in this picture is what you are looking for
Thanks fellas - all sorted as explained in the post just previous. My engine number was on the front of the block. I literally had to rub with meths/ acetone to remove a film and the number gradually appeared!
Yep, I am pretty convinced the locals have very little idea about the Sapphire Cossie - the 3 door is pretty famous but the Saph is a bit of a sleeper. I am certainly of the opinion that mine is modded (a little) as it certainly goes ballistic at 3500 revs!! Way more so than my twin turbo N54 335i. I WILL surprise a few locals at some point!

Glad you got the numbers you needed sorted out, does that mean you can now get the car registered to use on the road?
