If I was looking to buy an already modded sapphire and had that kinda of money to spend that would be the car I would buy.
White is not my favourite colour but that car is absolutely awesome.
One of the best out there

Old school spec I love it to
Build Thread for anyone interested in it
I was waiting for someone to slate it as being an old fashioned engine spec!!! I bet it goes like a rocket! To my old school liking I would love it!!!
I'm not slateing it at all, I love it it just is old school spec, I had a lovely 3 door years ago similar spec to that
8 greens, t4 it was a beast I'd guess around 450 hp as boost was only around 25 psi, I was about 21 at the time and it skinted me buying it for Ł10k lol
I would have expected more torque from a 552bhp motor? Why would that be? Obvs bhp is a multiple of torque x revs...so, it must be high revving late power???

I'm just the same. It's exactly as a big power Cossie should be - big, old skool turbo and a massive kick in the back when it comes on boost. If I ever had a big power one, that's exactly how it would be.
It's a lot of money (more than I could ever spend on something like that) but it's a lovely motor. Not heard from Jim for ages. He sold this to get on the property ladder didn't he? Probably got a Zafira or something now

Sorry, you misunderstood what I meant, I did'nt mean you were slating it, just thought some people might not like it's old school specc. You had a nice 3 door when you were only 21!

Thanks mate I loved it, worked my arse off for it
Would be worth alot more than 10k now

nice car but a lot of money
I'm pretty sure it made a lot more torque when it was first mapped on the engine dyno but they mapped it out as it's 2wd and it would of been impossible to put the power down.
Most 500-550hp spec cossies on T4 or GT30 type turbos all have around the 400-450lbft of torque figure.
Everyone says torque is want you want more of blah blah blah but I don’t believe that’s always true, get a nice big wide hp powerband and a high torque figure doesn’t matter that much.
Look at some of the quickest cossies out there and they are all ‘older spec’, Chris Lockes GT30 setup with very similar power to Jim’s old saff is one of the quickest if not the quickest rwd cossie over a quarter mile.
Ive not driven a ‘big torque’ spec cossie but Imo they probably just feel quicker because of the early peak torque but in reality they ain’t.... but I get they probably feel nicer to drive

My mk2 focus had 462lb had it took down to 425 ld and spread better it drives superb now to before more traction more power to the road win especially being gay wheel drive lol

Your spot on It's definitely the torque that breaks traction mate since my rs6 was mapped it's alot worse, don't get me wrong when it grips it's quicker than ever with the extra power and torque but it's alot more often that it doesn't grip and TC cuts in and it actually ends up slower
And your also correct it feels faster, much faster the kick in the back low rpm is immense
RSR595=james kiely;6807129]Stunning car, built by one of the best.

My 2wd Saff is only 450bhp but but getting the power down is not easy.On dry roads forget flooring it in first, power slides in second then good grip in third onwards I also have Federal track day tyres to help grip so how do the guys who have 550 bhp or more in a 2wd Saff cope?

Tbh I found them federal tyres rubbish.
R888s or AR1s are loads better
When I had the skyline box it would spin in 4th with a wide throttle on a cold or damp road when in 2wd mode.
The higher the torque the faster a car will accelerate as long as it has traction and the lower the torque in the rev range the better...where there is traction hence why all the 4wd electric cars with monster torque and a motor on each wheel are so fast. The new E porsche is just silly.
With a 2wd car and making the torque later in the rev range it helps traction as the car is moving.
I am not knocking the car, just assumed it would make more torque for the BHP but if the turbo comes in later obviously the revs are higher.
turbotrev I had Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres years back and they were rubbish!!!!, tramlining and no grip at all , it was like driving on ice. A couple of times coming off a roundabout in 2nd and flooring it the Saff ended up facing back the way I had come which was a bit scary!! Swapped over to the Federal595 RSR tyres and it made a massive difference to grip. Not sure what you thought was wrong with them Trevor but I am on my 2nd set and still pleased with them.

My supra on pirellis was spinning all the time, 0-100 mph over 10 seconds, I fitted r888s and went 0-100 mph in 7 seconds straight away
I cannot emphasis enough how good r888s are they are the best summer road tyres by far ime
And I've had a few big power cars to get the power down and they just work, utterly useless in the wet but any tyre will be with big power

Are they ok for just general driving in the wet or is that too much for them? I've only really had Goodyear tyres and tbh I am not impressed half the time with them. Even just on both the daily drivers they struggle with low power.

I've used them in the wet driving sensible there useable, but in the dry there incredible ime
I wish I had a before and after of my supra but I dont, but I have got a video of r888s, rwd, no traction control, over 700 hp 1.6 bar of boost, she ran 800+ hp at 2 bar
0-85 mph on my private road
Bearing in mind that is over 700 hp over 500 lbft at the tyres, little bit of squeel but clean hooking from third gear, I really rate them as road tyres

I've been hunting as I knew I had to have a comparison somewhere, taken me a while but I found it
Direct comparison plot with pirelli p zero tyres 305/30/19, then r888 295/30/19
just by changing tyres 3.3 seconds out of the 0-130 mph time !
And although it was about 8 years ago I remember it like it was yesterday, I took my dad out in the supra on the pirelli, 4th gear 100 mph nailed it and it spun up straight to the limiter ! Pops was like fuck me that is ridiculous, and he liked fast cars had owned Mustangs, big block Corvettes etc
Anyway we went racing around wiggling it's bum everywhere lol
I got some r888s on it but he wouldn't get in the car again lol
Dad did film me though doing a 12.1, low mph as I missed 4th gear
Been absolute years since I've been to Santa Pod. Last time I was there steve scott had his fiesta running down the strip.
I'll have to look into those tyres for on the 944, It would be the first higher power rwd car that I've owned. The others have just been boggo spec low power one's and I am interested in getting as much rear grip as possible with that car.

Just see how you go mate, the supra was just undriveable with 760 whp and pirellis just spinning all the way past 100 mph lol
do you think a set of smaller diameter wheels for track days , 17 or 18 inch instead of the 19s would help for better times? I remember top gear saying bigger wheels slow you down by affectively increasing the gearing?
the unique Scottish weather means r888s as my everyday tyres would be undrivable in the wet

They are no good in the wet for anymore than grannying to the shop lol but will work if sensible as they do have a few grooves to disperse water
I've never run r888s at pod but I will be this year 100% I'm trusting myself not what anyone else says this time lol

I just found them still not great for traction, you said you have 450hp?
I had 520 and I would still get reasonable traction in 2nd gear in the dry,
Try the R888s or AR1s and youll see they are better than the Federals

depends if the overall rolling radius is changed, 17s tend to have bigger tyre wall so overall circumference could be the same, especially on drag tyres. If you go low profile then the gearing would be lower which could help acceleration on some cars, albeit with more gear changes.
Current is a 265 x 30 x 19.....ill fit a pair of 255 x 35 x 18s with some sort of track tyre on the rear ...
Back to the cossie..... Even with the prices being what they are nowadays surely Ł30K + is a bit on the high side for a saph....although I see its now been removed from sale... Probably cancelled it to dodge ebay fees.... I wonder what it did go for?
I've had nangkangs in the past and found they was not bad as a cheap all rounder but that was years ago and on low power cars. I think I had some on my audi s2's and they was ok but you could still get the arse end out on long sweeping corners or launching it if you did it right.
