Hi mate, there are a few topics on these on here if the search function actually spits them out lol

I had one, nice to drive, average on economy (low to mid 50's mpg wise). Decent torque, though it never really felt as well built or as torquey as the Audi it replaced.

Decent kit for the money, but they have common faults, such as the EGR packing up, injectors, a rattling from the idler tension pulley and the sat nav aerial going wrong.

I never suffered injector problems but did suffer the others. Still did like it as a motorway bruiser though!

Cheers mate!

It's one of those or a 330/320d sport I think. I do like the look of the Mondeo though!

Good cars! Injector problems aint that common on the 2.2tdci. Plenty of afrmarket stuff on offer for them. Mine has a rattling pulley, it'll get fixed eventually. Well specced cars for the money. Check out mondeostoc website!

I had one. Was a great car - capable of munching up many a mile in supreme comfort.

In the just over the year of ownership I had it for, it had the Tensioner pulley replaced twice as they're very susceptible to them going.

The usual worry is the DMF going as well as the injectors. If they go it's Ł600 > Ł1000 a pop for either but it's a lottery. Mine seemed fine.

Easily uprated with a custom map or just a box from www.tuning-diesels.co.uk. Mine made 177bhp / 355lbft on a rolling road day from here and featured in Performance Ford.

Best go for a test drive and see if you like the power delivery. It's a bit "wobbly" handling wise (but excellent comfort as a compromise) but lowering springs tighten things up no end apparently.

Missus had one from almost new to just over two yrs ago.
Replaced it with a 320d M-Sport Touring and have to say we would not go back.
Suffered all the usual problems along with the wheel bearings and exhaust falling apart

BMW is on another level build wise.

Equivalent passat 1.9 tdi 130 would be a better bet IMO.

I will say, the idler pulley does just go again once you've had it done. Doesn't seem to cause any issues though!

Depending on the age you are looking at, 320d is ok, 330d is a machine! Although the bills could be substantially more expensive!

In response to above, passat is a well built motor, dull to drive though by comparison and you would need the 2.0 to come close in the pace stakes.

Any diesel seems to benefit from a decent map.

Had it almost a year now Grant. It's totally pointless as I'm using it as a daily to ferry my kids about. At 15mpg. Besides, I really want another RS Trouble as a toy.

All I'm hearing about these is fuel related problems. Injectors and Fuel pumps and what not.....

Will find one close to me when I'm home and go have a drive then!

It's looking more and more like the BMW. My wife will not be impressed as she doesn't like BMW's apparently....

I'm looking at 2002-2004 330d's. Around the 4k mark I think, but as close to Ł0 as I can go

Have you considered a Mk4 Mondeo? Much better built than the Mk3, and easily on a par, if not better than the German rivals.

Dan, yes and no mate. I'm aiming to spend as little as I can. I want another RS Trouble as a second car, and hence don't want to spend more than say, 4k on an oil burner. I would like to spend like, Ł1, but I want something nice to drive and fairly quick. So I won't get bored and hate it and end up selling up for another Jap Shed....

The Mk4 mondeo's are nice, however they cost more. Meaning I have to eat into my savings. I don't want to do that, I want to top UP my savings when the Evo goes.

I like the look of the Mk3 ST. I just don't want to buy one and then have to spend a grand on fuel pumps and injectors.

I would ONLY consider buying a Mk3 if it had already been through the 'shit patch' and had receipts for injectors and a replacement DMF/Clutch.

You could get a lucky one and face no bills for thousands of miles. But after my experiences I definitely wouldn't buy a low mileage one thinking it was a good idea. I'd have been far better off spending a lot less on one that had more miles, but had already had the expensive bits replaced.

You can get a Mk4 for Ł4K - Hugely more reliable too!

Had one from 6 months old, done 120k in it sold it coz I fancied a changed, got a few different things then went and got another one as it ticked all the boxes for us. The old one never once let me down and apart from tyres, one stt of discs and pads at 90k and the egr valve it didn't need anything at all. This one we have now has been spot on so far too. Great cars.

Considering the number of Mondeo TDCis sold there are always going to be some bad apples. Just a shame that the TDCIs are invariably very expensive to fix when they do go wrong - same seems to be true for all common rail diesels.

Get a good one, and they are awesome cars for the money.

Hmmmmmmm. TBH Dan if I don't get the ST, it'll be a BMW 320/330d. I couldn't get a funky Mk4 Mondeo for my money, and I don't fancy upping the budget.

I'm a right fussy fucker you know...........

I keep reading about 50+mpg. My st TDCI is averaging around 34mpg at this time. OK it is bluefinned, and it goes very well, but mpg is low. I have had 43+mpg up to, and back from Scotland, driving at 85 mph most of the time. Does it pay to replace EGR valve or is just cleaning the existing one the way to go?. I love the car and it replaces a great ST24. I also own a 3door cossie.

What year is it? If it has a Euro 3 engine you can just blank the EGR off and not get any Engine management lights.
