What BM? E46 or E9X?
Davie, a bit a quality would do nicely! E46 mate, I am spend as close to £0 as I can. I'm buying a fooking oil burner after all.

Had it almost a year now Grant. It's totally pointless as I'm using it as a daily to ferry my kids about. At 15mpg. Besides, I really want another RS Trouble as a toy.

All I'm hearing about these is fuel related problems. Injectors and Fuel pumps and what not.....

In the just over the year of ownership I had it for, it had the Tensioner pulley replaced twice as they're very susceptible to them going.

The usual worry is the DMF going as well as the injectors. If they go it's £600 > £1000 a pop for either but it's a lottery. Mine seemed fine.

Easily uprated with a custom map or just a box from www.tuning-diesels.co.uk. Mine made 177bhp / 355lbft on a rolling road day from here and featured in Performance Ford.

Best go for a test drive and see if you like the power delivery. It's a bit "wobbly" handling wise (but excellent comfort as a compromise) but lowering springs tighten things up no end apparently.
Will find one close to me when I'm home and go have a drive then!

Replaced it with a 320d M-Sport Touring and have to say we would not go back.
Suffered all the usual problems along with the wheel bearings and exhaust falling apart

BMW is on another level build wise.
It's looking more and more like the BMW. My wife will not be impressed as she doesn't like BMW's apparently....

Depending on the age you are looking at, 320d is ok, 330d is a machine! Although the bills could be substantially more expensive!

In response to above, passat is a well built motor, dull to drive though by comparison and you would need the 2.0 to come close in the pace stakes.

Any diesel seems to benefit from a decent map.
I'm looking at 2002-2004 330d's. Around the 4k mark I think, but as close to £0 as I can go
