You may not need to replace it.
Have a look to see if the gaiter has got any splits in it or look for signs of grease being sprayed about. If a gaiter has split it can cause water and other shit to get in there and wash out the grease.
It may just need the joint cleaning out, new gaiter and regreasing.
As for prices, I wouldn't have a clue as it's been ages since I've had to change one.
I wouldn't necessarily change both, just the one that's clicking (if needed

As Gaz says(Kitchen Devil) I would go for cv gaitor aswell,if not worse case scenario cv joint itself.Yes get the car on the ramp and check for grease leaking out which will point to a split gaitor,if not it could well be the cv joint itself.

Right so it looks like you peeps were right! thx, I have found a site where i can buy two cv joints brand new with boots, clips, grease, e.c.t, for about £22 a set, my mechanic says he will fit them for me for £30 a side,so all in all,£104 for parts and work! just hope it works
I would have a go and fit them myself but i dont want to mess things up.
Got my st24 sorted, the old cv joints were a biatch to get off, and a few of the bolts were rusted, but we got them off in the end......then one wouldnt fit back on which we found was a bearing had dropped from the inner cv, lucky it was passenger side so we didnt lose gearbox oil when we removed it to see what was wrong the other side was a bit easier ....not much though....... but hey in the end they both went on no bolts sheered off, and nothing else broke, and it worked a treat well happy with her now shes driving a treat ,cheers peeps ...
