I fitted my cam last night and just want to make sure its all right. I tried to adjust them but couldn't set the lifters low enough. Basically, couldn't get two spanners on them to tighted the lock nut as they were so low, making the nuts close to each other with only 2-3 mm of space between the two. So I have doubled up the rocker shims, 2 rather than 1 and have now set them to 10-12 thou but on the lifters I now have about 12mm of thread showing. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem?
Yeah I did exactly the same thing, happens if you've had new valves/seats fitted at some point, the stem sticks further out of the head
Your clearances are wrong though, should be 8 and 10 not 10 and 12!

No mate that totally wrong!
The exhaust has the bigger clearence as they get hotter and expand more for a start.....
If you look at the Newmans site it says In 0.008 and Ex 0.010..... sorry!

I just leave them all out, then rotate the cam so the lobe is pointing up, then rotate 180degrees so it is pointing down, drop in lifter, fit arm meassure gap, adjust whilst in situ (bit fiddley but saves some time), remove, lock off, refit and check, remove, adjust, repeat...
heads off the car so not too bad. I'll do them again Sunday afternoon.

Did you miss the next bit where I said "refit and check, remove, adjust, repeat.." ?
lol
I've never had them stay exactly as they should, but it's gets them closer to start with which saves a little time

It always helps people understand why they have to re-check when they understand why they are re-checking!
It's the human nature of "can't be arsed" that kicks in, until a valve burns out and then someone explains why they should have re-checked!
Apprentices are the worst. If you don't explain why you are doing something and why you have to do something they either A/ ask loads and loads of stupid questions or B/ don't do whay you've told them and fuck it up!
