Default Insurance claim question

Hi guys,

Basically, my dad ran into the back of someone tonight in his daily runabout. Only a £300 micra so no big loss, but does he need to tell his insurers about it? As in, the car is worth fuck all as it is, so he's probably going to chuck it and get another daily hack but obviously the other guy is going to claim off his insurance.

So does my dad need to tell our insurers anything or wait till the claim comes from the other party?

Thanks.

pretty sure he at least need to call them to inform them.

Why dont you read the policy folder/ terms and conditions, it will tell you in there for sure!

notify your insurance mate, if you don't it will hold up the claim for the other party and this usually leads to the legal people getting involved

Sorry to here about you bump though, everyone ok i hope

Yeah its all cool. My dad just called me. Thing is, I know where the incident happened, and it's on a very busy zebra, notorious for causing rear ends. I've never had one but sooo easy to happen at that location, I've sometimes been caught out by that zebra but always quick enough on the stoppers.

Oh well, I just hope the insurance goes smoothly and we have no gyp from them. That's the no claims down the drain though

if theres not much damage cant you sort it out between you by paying the other party cash for their damage instead of involving the insurers? that way your no claims is protected especially if the damage is minimum and about the amount of your excess.

Ironic tho isnt it. The insurance bastards have us over a barrell.

We pay all that money (i paid £3200 last year) and yet the very reason we have insurance for accidents and stuff, we are to afraid to use it cos its only gna make it more expensive

catch 22 and the insurance brokers are sitting there rubbing their hands every night!

Well Dad is home, he is not injured, car however is fucked. Rad, lights, bumper think the sub frame is bent too etc. The guy he hit was a bit shocked up but everybody is OK.

Gives me a bit of a wake up call as well, NEVER slack with observation. Never know when it's all going to go tits up

If going this route you must inform your insurance, or if/when they develop whiplash, the £k's will be coming out of your pocket.

obviously not to be done if you suspect the motives of the other driver but if you inform your insurance company it will still go down as a black mark on your record even if you dont claim from it. according to adrian flux anyway.
ive done it once for a minor bump.

thing is, it normally goes down as a black mark for the other drier as wll as they have been invovled in an accident, regardless of who was to blame

Is that true? That kind of happed to me I stopped at a roundabout as I done a shoulder check this guy was going to fast and hit me, it sent my flying. I was on my motorbike, Hence the reason why I’ve just brought a focus. Does that mean that I’ve got to declare this on the insurance company even if it’s not my fault?

Yep, usually asks any claims irrespective of fault.
Class you as more likely to have an accident/claim, is shit really.
Not across the board, but usually your insurance will go up for a non fault claim.

yup, that's the fucker

nowadays they also ask you the cost of the claim as well, even thoguh you may not have a clue, but i think it's more to do with so many personal injiruy claims coming through now, if you have a history of them they may up the premium

take for example the granada that i was rear ended in, it was insured in my dads name, i was the named driver and got written off
the cost of the claim was the £800 for writing the car off, plus the £1250 for the compo whiplash etc so when the renewal came it was £400 for the old man
i called the same insurance company to say "can i be the policy holder and my dad be the named driver" and it was £700, yet if i remained the named driver on m dads policy, it dropped won to £400 again because even though my dad had made a claim on his policy, it was me who had had the claim and not him

insureance is a silly game, with rules made up to confuse us all, but if you want the proper speil, speak to tony@greenlight , he's a trader on here (at least he was the last time i spotted him) and ask for some insider info as to how it may work
