A freind of mine was wondering if a car is insured if you drive through a flood and break your car?

the theory is- if she followed lots of cars through and the car broke down, would the insurance pay to repaor it?

in theory yes they will.. but a lot of cars were written off due to the flood damage we had last year no matter the age/milage/condition etc.

if it's stationary and gets a dousing of water then they will payout

if youdrive through it like a spaz because the guy in front did, they will look at it as a driver being a twat

if it was possible i'd show you the ammount of standing water down the road that gets 3 or 4 hero's stranded in it everyt ime it buckets down, most of them are mechanically fucked where the engines hydro lock, and if that'st he case then you won't get a penny from the insurance if that's what you are thinking

on the other hand, if you say you were driving through and it was raining, there is also some clause where you have to take avoiding action or soemthing complicated along those lines

if you are trying to ford a stream and the car gets stuck and washes away, then it won't be a problem, but just parking it up in a river will at the very least come out of your pocket

My dad drove through a flood/deep puddle a couple of years ago and his engine took in water bending a rod. The insurance company paid out 9k for a new engine (BMW 5 series).

i went through a puddle (a big one) and snapped a rod, they didnt want to know.

The AA man was pretty impressed i'd managed to drive 2 miles after it went

I work for a BMW dealership & we change engines for the insurance companys last month we done 4 so they do cover it.But i would read the small print direct line & royal sun alliance we have dealt with they are ok.

people are covered if they drive through a flood and damage the car as long as they have comprehensive cover.

I know of two people who have had this happen in the past couple of years, one had a new engine fitted (Golf R32) after a deep puddle turned out to be very deep puddle, the other had the car (Porsche 944 turbo) fully paid out as the water went from being 4 inches deep when he drove into it to being 4ft deep by the time the rain stopped an hour later.

Is that not common sense that the insurance company will only pay out for damage (be it flood or whatever) to your car if your fully comp??
