Default £60 fine for no m,o,t

just went out to go southend for the night, got half a mile down the road and traffic police going the other way, turn round and flash me and my mate over, we were 100 yards away from the petrol station that we were going in so decided to pull up in their rather than the side of the road, police cut in front of me at the pump, get out with the biggest attitude saying he could book me for failing to stop! anyway give's me a 30 pound fine for a small front number plate, then does his check's and my mot run out 2 weeks ago which fair enough theirs no excuse for it but i forgot so he gives me a 60 pound fine for that, i never knew you could get fined for that and i work in a mot test centre!!

did any know you could get fined for that?

so i done half a mile and it cost me 90 quid

Ive never understood how they can do you for no insurance when you have an insurance policy in your name. should be a different named offence for breaching the terms of insurance.

At least youve paid your premiums!! should definitely IMO be different offence to those who deliberately choose not to buy insurance.

Hell what next, you get pulled for speeding and get done as well for "no insurance" as im sure theres something in the small print about dodgy driving standards

These days it wont be long before you get done for no insurance for "undeclared mods" by having a magic tree in your car!!!

anyway back on topic! An MOT tester forgetting his own MoT.... erm own goal mate!!

COCK of a copper. You are supposed to pull over in a safe place and invariably off the road is safer than on it. Not like he followed you for 2 miles then you pulled over!!! I was under the impression they were required to give reasonable opportunity to pull over before they could even consider "failing to stop".

Personally i dont pull over until i consider its safe to do so and ona normal town road unless its totally empty or wide i wont pull over on double yellows much to some coppers annoyance.

Also on motorways when ive been flashed if its within 1 mile of a junction i will usually take the junction if i know the area has somewhere to pull over off the motorway. simple safety really. If the junctions a service station then perfect.

tbh I'd forgot the mot on the missuses puma last year...was four months overdue, didnt realise until I came to tax it online And im also a tester of 9yrs I think what it is, when your a tester you do so many tests, not just for work but also friends/family that you lose track of your own cars mot date....dont help when you've got a few cars as well. I was convinced that ours was September...not May as it was

no mot doesnt automatically lead to a no insurance charge.
what surprises you about that? you didnt know you could get fined for not having an mot?

bad news, and a silly mistake, but you got off lightly to be honest.
failure to stop and no insurance could both have been thrown at you if the copper were in a bad mood. which would have ment a court apperance and points and fines.

mot is a non point endorasable offenct, but some cops view no mot as a void on the insurance.

Id be glad with the £90 fine, and learnt my lesson to use a calender/diary.

cant believe your in the MOT game, oh the irony

There is no failure to stop here, you commit an offence if you impeded traffic flow, so you used your common sensem unlike the copper, who could have signalled you just before the filling station.
If you have NOT been warned about the illegal plate before, you have to be given a warning first, and then you can either fix it or ignore it as you wish, but first one is a warning always, it WILL be put on the system that you have been warned so next one is a fine, then next one is withdrawal of number, the take the plates off there and then.
They then either let you or arrange themsleves recovery of a "unregistered" vehicle to the pound.
They will not and cannot let you drive it away with no plates on.

rubbish !

been done 3 times, theres NO WAY they can list all warnings from pulling you over, theres no time to do it ffs, they NEED to process all fines and even then it takes weeks for it to come back but theres money attached to them, listing warnings on the system is impossible cause they aint got any paperwork for yo to sign to agree you have recived it

they CAN take the plate off the car,,,,, but there isnt a case anyone has heard of based on a small plate

and even that has to be done via the court,,,,,,, as ITS A LEGAL THING

you do talk some shite these days

bet you wouldn't have been pulled if you had a full size plate and an mot
The copper was probably just pissed off with having to waste his time on pulling yet another driver with an illegal plate u were probably number 78 this week.I.m sure the copper felt he had better things to do
I have always run legal plates it's just less agro
if you can't do the time don't do the crime lol

It was around 11ish at night so no one was using it and I wasnt parked that close to it TBH, he could of gave me a warning and told me to move on but he had to be a jobs worth TWAT..

I can understand giving points for speeding way over the limit and dangerous driving but not for parking on zig zags, it was only coz I was a young driver with a nice car and he thought he would teach me a lesson..

Not read all the replies, but please no more people saying no MOT = no insurance!!

How on earth would no test change your third party payout? Might make it so your no paid out, but in the eyes of the law it makes ZERO difference. Wish people would find out facts before posting bullshit on here. A lot of people will believe what they read on here.

When I got caught with no MoT after a producer I got told by EVERYONE that I was gonna be in big trouble 'cos it meant no insurance blah blah blah...

...right up until I get a letter in the post from the police saying on this occasion they weren't going to charge me for no MoT... off scot free 'cos they couldn't be arsed with the paperwork presumably

So, if you have no mot on your car, and crash due to a defect on the car that would have been picked up on an mot - say 4 bold tyres for example. The insurance can surely refuse to pay you out???

If this is the case, then driving a car with no mot must invalidate the insurance?? and surely if an eager bobby wanted to throw everything at you, surely this could also be one of the convictions??

Don't mind being corrected, it is just what i have always been informed, so if it's wrong, then put the record straight.

What about modifications that are not declaired?? why do coppers check all of this, surely it is the same principle, it is something that would invalidate the insurcance.

Wouldn't mind knowing what the facts are.

if you got bald tyres you wont get a pay out,,,,, BUT THIRD PARTY IS STILL COVERED

also heres a interesting one, a mate of mine was dealing with a claim for a bloke who crashed hes car whilst over the limit, they paied for the repairs to BOTH cars,,, hes a insurance claims engineer for norwich union,, he couldnt belive it either might i add

bald tyre wont invalidate the insurance, BUT it will give YOU the blame
