Ive hav fell in love with the xr2i's and would love one as my first car. I can afford the insurance, and to buy one. What is your opinion on getting one as a first car and wot should i look out for?

Rust rust and more rust. Very prone to rust around the petrol cap.

Which version are you looking at the 1.6 CVH or the 1.8 Zetec?

To be honest as a first timer you would probably do better getting the milder Si until you get some experience and some NCB under your belt

I've had both 1.8 and 1.6 versions. I prefer the 1.6 for definate as it appears more reliable.

Look out for rust around the filler cap for a start and just do the normal checks u would on any other car really

Have to admit that if I had my time with an XR again I too would still take the CVH powered car

The good thing about the 1.8 is that it was very responsive on the throttle but the 1.6 has such a nice sound to it and it doesn't need a cat for the MOT

Yeah i heard that aswell. I know the top end speed on the 1.6 is better. The 1.8 seemed more nippy on acceleration tho.

I'd still take the 1.6 anyday mind u
