Default XR2i & RS1800 Differences?

Basically ive sold my corsa gsi runner and looking into getting a fiesta RS1800 but whilst scanning around ive seen a fair few late 1.8 16v XR2i's out there for a fair amount less in price.

Just wondered if theres a big difference in the spec's of these cars and is the engine the same in both?

what differences should i keep an eye out for?

Cheers in advance

Kelvin

the xr2i 16v is rated at 105ps whereas the rs1800 is 130ps. The difference in power comes from diff cams, ecu , throttle body and maff (air flow metre)

the rs1800's are much rarer.

but neither of the early ones had powersteering - go for one with it as it does spoil the car without IMO.

Get a rs1800 much nicer i loved mine But get one with recaro's, some come with the wing style seats that are not as nice! You can pick them up quite cheaply now if you look about

You could always get a run about like rich ay?

Get the RS as a daily driver,I did

I went for the later model with power steering and ugly but comftable wingback seats!

Then again knowing me there will be a pair of buckets and a rollcage in there before long

Just to go against the grain I'd say go for a car without power steering. I found the feel through the steering to be much better and found the car to be more responsive. Doesn't the power steering pump cost you power as well?

Just IMO. Get a Fez though chap you will love it. I loved mine to bits

I got a mk3 Fiesta RS 1800, as a run round to replace my XR2 its got power steering and the wing back seats I had a FRST and this new one is much more reliable and the seats are more comfy tho not as nice as the recarro. I do not like power steering but I got used to it

Ps For sale as well see cars for sale

Cheap

mine without PAS seemed to feel wooden and was always heavy, you had to really rag at it to make it go where you wanted when going hard, another thing i notoced whwnever it felt unstabe cornering about every 4 months or so, i checked under the back and it had broken yet another rear antiroll bar link. i replaced 4 of them on it - this didnt seem right to me. even with them off bothsided, the arb was straight so it wasnt like it was twisted and casuing excessive strain on one side or anything.

the other thing that was a toal nightmare on mine, K218 EVW, pacifica blue, was that when it was 4 years old when i bough it, 6months in while having a stereo fitted , noticed that that both sills under the door rubber seals were completely rotten, like push your finger straight through rotten, on closer inspection, it was not only both cills but the whole rear wing wing with the fuel filler on had gone bubbly and fooked, (at the time ford were only offering a 5 year anti perferation warranty) so i managed to get ot done under the ford warranty by the skin of its teeth. so just check these areas particularly well when looking.
