Default pc problem....

....my pc seems to be running a bit slow and notchy over the last couple of days when scrolling through pages. the pages load up as quick as usual though. ive done a full scan with my security which showed no problems and ive also tried a system restore but its not helped. system resore worked the last time i had this problem.
any hints that a computer novice could try or does it sound like a trip to the pc shop is required ?
please reply in plain english though and not computer geek talk so i can understand you....

You don't say what security you are running but try downloading MALWAREBYTES and running a full scan of your PC with that. You can safely download from www.download.com

Don't forget to report back and let us all know how you get on.

its mcafee security.
ive always been suspiscious of security products as i always seem to start having problems as the years subscription is nearing its end. i reckon they deliberately infect you with their own viruses so youll upgrade their product.
can the malwarebytes be downloaded on a protected pc or will it need mcafee uninstalled before itll work?

When its starting to chug. Hit ctrl+Alt+delete. Click task manager. and look at performance and processes tabs.

The performance tab will tell you what your load you cpu is at and how much ram is being used.
The processes tab will show you whats running and whats hogging all the juice.

Always a good place to start.

Do you have a lot of programs running at once? Or even stuff running in the background? My laptop was slow, turned out that it was running 13 programs on start up, all unnecessary! Stopped them all and it was fine.

73 processes
0-10% cpu usage (fluctuating)
29% physical memory
1.15 gb memory

If it was me, I'd do a malwarebytes scan, download and run ccleaner and download and run glary utilities. The three of them will clean the crap out of the PC and speed everything up.

That is what percentage of your computers components are being used.
So what is happening with your computer it is not throttling either the RAM or CPU.
Its when those figures get nearer 80% you'll usually start to notice slow down.

So maybe it a browser issue, or display driver.

What web browser do you use?

No. Its more what load the CPU is at rather than the processes.

Example. I have 6 tabs open with goggle chrom at the moment so thats 11 processes just from chrome.

I only have windows, nvidia experience, D3D overide on my taskbar and thats 48 processes.

Try a different web browser and see if the problem persists.

Each process consumes memory though, so that can affect performance (although not a problem in this case)

These days though most applications have there own update service etc, and iTunes has several processes alone, as the newer Windows OS's have more services than ever.

As said though, if you use Chrome try Internet explorer and see if you have the same problem, more than likely it's a problem with the browser, caused by a bad add-on, for example. You can run IE without any of these load for troubleshooting purposes, not sure if Chrome has a similar feature?

The display driver if for your graphics card, there may be a newer version, although I doubt this is causing this issue.

its an HP ,ts about 2 years old and its on windows 7.
ive undone the last system resore and removed a spotify and a event manager process from the task manager and that helped but when i shut down and started up the pc again the 2 processes had returned. how do i remove them completely so they dont return as the trouble seemed to coinside with these two programs appearing on my pc? the spotify window keeps popping up all the time but theres no sign of it when i click on all programs in the control panel?

use ccleaner to control what runs at startup. Also do a full clean with it.

Malbytes is fine, ignore the block message.

Remove mcafee (just uninstalling it will make you computer loads faster) and use avast. free and less draining on system resources. Use comodo for a firewall, which is also free.

Click on start. In the "search programs and files" bar, type "msconfig". You'll see it appear at the top of the start bar. Launch it.

On the system configuration box there will be a "startup". You can see what programs are starting at launch, then untick the ones you don't want on start up.

ccleaner is a great tool, download it and run it to remove a load of un-needed crap off of your machine.

Then delete stuff you don't use any more. Click the start menu then in the search box type in uninstall. Click the 'uninstall a program'. Run through the list and delete anything you have installed but don't use.

Restart your computer to complete uninstallation of some programs that may need it, then in the same search box, type in defragment. Open up the disk defragmenter and defragment your C drive. Depending on how bad it is it could take a couple of hours, so just leave it to run and don't be tempted to cancel it half way through.

After that, you should find your machine running a bit better!

Yeah the sponsored links at the top are dodgy mate, go to filehippo.com and download ccleaner and malwarebytes and run them from there.

Then report back, have a look on startup aswell to if there's stuff running that doesn't need to be, open your start menu and type in msconfig and untick what you don't need running on startup,

after getting a coincidental email today from mcafee trying to sell me software to fix slow running pc's its just reinforced my belief that the security deliberately infects you nearing the end of your contract time so you pay more to upgrade so i un installed everything to do with mcafee and downloaded microsoft security essentials, scanned and cleaned it up and everythings running good again...
bring on the goat porn vidoes.....

The best form of anti virus is common sense.

Avoid using torrents.
No illegal websites/software.
If you don't recognise the email address, don't open the attachment.
etc....
