Default Wireless Network Problem

Hi guys I need help connecting two computers via a wireless router! I have a netgear router, a home pc and my laptop. I have ran the wizard and used a usb dongle to configure the settings and as you can see the home pc is shown on my laptop's workgroup computers. However when I try to access the home computer I get the error message (shown below).
Any ideas why?

Cheers

Colin

I spent best part of a year trying to connect my two PC's together on a common network (wired) so I could access stuff in each PC from each PC and all I ever got is what you are getting

So I gave up

I've gone for the "easier" option, since I had the same "fun" trying to get two Windows machine to talk directly to each other......seems there's about 5 billion "magical" little settings that need configuring before Windows will accept that the connection does actually want to be established and usable between the two...

The easier option I've taken? A Linux server on the network, that I can transfer stuff to/from any of the Windows machines on my network with absolute ease...

I just fitted a bluetooth USB stick into both machines, so when I want someting on one machine to be put on another, I just send via bluetooth!

Does mean I have to initiate it from the machine that currently has the file, and that it only works as an FTP type thing, and also means I STILL can't share a fucking printer

Right. Firstly I would put the machines into a new Workgroup. There alway USED to be a BUG with MSHOME.
Ensure both the PC's are uploaded with all the latest updates/SP's.

When your at this stage, I would consider manually setting up the machines. At a guess you are using DHCP for the router to give your PC's a network address.

I am gonna stop here or Ill bore you. Come back and tell us if you are running any anti-virus' firewall programs. Then I can suggest some more things.

I got my network setup within 10 mins

Make sure both PC and Laptop have different names <my pc is called Buffy, my laptop is called Willow> and ensure that both PC's are on the same network <mine's called RS>. Once all this is done, and you've connected to the network, you can access both machines by clicking start -> run, then \\<name of the machine>

The only thing that should stop this is a firewall, or incorrectly setup network.

I'm surprised you didn't call your network "Sunnydale"!
