Thanks for that mate,

doubt we will do a 3dr version mate, in fact its pretty doubtful that we will make any more of these. The issue is the weave and the amount of pieces used for each layer, the first shield that was made with one pice per layer, this made the manufacturing time very quick and easy, the down side was that there would be an imperfection in the weave around the bit hidden by the exhaust. Although once fitted this would not be visible I personally would not want to sell something that had the weave pulled like that, (daft I know)

So this latest one uses 2 pieces, one around the exhaust and one for the visible side of the shield, as we do not use prepreg and use infusion this process is extremely time consuming/fiddly and not cost effective at all. The good side is that you end up with a much neater weave in all areas.

We may do a batch of these in the future. Could do with people feedback on the first shield really, would the visible cut in the weave be offputting to the consumer? bearing in mind that the price would be less and the weave would not be visible once installed.

Having a 3dr means it makes no difference but if its hidden by the exhaust it wouldn't bother me at all

cheers fellas,

this is the feedback we need, it looks as though people dont mind whats hidden, this makes life much easier all round, production is simpler and the final product has a cheaper retail!!

Will get this sent off to Silver's sporn then await his comments, im sure thre may be a few final mods to the shape to ensure a perfect fit etc which is impossible for us to do without a bumper but things are now moving on this.

Cheers

lol, the thing is this shield has been made to follow the lines of the saph, ie there is a creased line at the side of the exhaust which this follows, I dont think the 3dr has one?? I may be wrong

maybe someone hase a smashed rear bumper on this site the cay cut the exhaust area out and send it to us??

I moulded/replicated Jimbo's rear bumper/exhaust area in about 3 hours whilst he waited (and scoffed his face) so if anyone wants to swing past one morning

If not cragat, I could knock a grp one up from this one and you could offer it up to your car, its only the diameter of the cut out and the sides which would need modding, this would mean a fresh mould though dedicated to the 3dr

Grp one sounds a good option tho a previous owner has butchered the exhaust area so I'd only be able to guarantee the cutout was suitable for mine but am very willing to do so

no problem mate, would ideally need it to be as mint as poss to save time and try and get the mould a close to perfect first time, will look into it though as I know of a few in my area one of which is due for a respray so he may let me loose with my chopped strand and paint brush

nice one,it would hide the 'cuts' in mine for the moment till I find a mint bumper and fit it to that one after paint

Are you still looking for ideas Raj? How about a Sapphire carbon fuel pump cradle and fuel tank strap? Im sure they would appeal to bufty type peoples.

Maybe look at some of the other underside bits and bobs that would appeal to concourse/obsessive compulsive cleaners in the ford world. Surely theres bits on the undersides of Mk1/2 Escorts, 3dr's, Sapphs, RST's Escos' that would be popular in carbon??

Escort MK1 & 2's is a funny market to get into, the owner are pretty much one extreme to another, either pure'ists or all out mental engined nutters, either way if tyhey want carbon it tends to be one offs, but if there is a demand for something and its feasable then we will defo look into it.

Could you provide more info on the bits you have suggested for the saph? sounds interesting

I see your point with the Mk1/2 folk

Heres a couple of pics from my resto thread bud, they are only phone pics though but should be enough to give you the idea.

Fuel pump cradle, because of where they are they pick up all sorts of shit from the roads and corrode badly over time.

i think your being too anal about weave on bits you cant even see......

fair enough if it was the bonnet of a car but hidden under the exhaust.

as you said it makes it too costly for infusion as its a bitch to cut pieces and get it to sit nice in a mould. prepreg is good for that but not cost effective either due to the quantity your making either.
