no sure about carbon but someone needs to develop something similar to what the jap boys use in their exhausts - a little valve or flap that you engage when you need the car to be quiet - such as parking late at night so as not to wake the whole neighbourhood up lol

For anyone who is interested,
managed to make the first rolled edged heat shield for the Saphire Cosworth today. Its not finished as we still need to alter the stack layout somewhat to try and get the weave a bit straighter around the exhaust. I know this wont be visible once fited but its more of a personal preference for us to try and achieve the neatest finish possible, the rolled edge has turned out pretty trick as well
Anyway will let the pics do the talking, please any comments welcome

cheers andy & jim,
bit more work to do yet but you get the idea of how its going to look, can you see the difference the rolled edge makes? imo that little bit of extra messing around during the moulding process is all worthwhile when the part is finished with no visible cuts etc. Going to make another one out of 2 seperate pieces of carbon probably tomorrow or friday, that should see a flawless weave. not weighed it yet but I would be suprises if its over 20 grams

Hi Warren,
not been polished just dusted over with a bit of lacquer, a good polish should see a nice deep shine, but this was only an experimental one to determine problem areas in the stack and weave pattern.
Not a bad result if im honest, should be a nice little product for the saffs out there

Warren you are more than welcome to pop up mate, would be good to meet you in person, just dont expect a full on "how to" visit as a lot of people expect, takes a long time to learn the ins and outs which is a learning curve which never ends.
I can guarantee that the kettle will be on the biscuit barrel will be full

nice to speak to you the other day,
the baging tech is actually spot on which I knew would be, pressure was applied evenly with next to no manipulation required. The fault was with the stack, with an item of this shape it is impossible to make a part without any compromise in the weave (if trying to use a single pice of fabric), im just not happy to sell a part which has a inconsistency in the weave when I know there is another way to remove it.
(but was worth a try)
Like I said earlier this was only a proto-type to see if it could be done to a presentable level which we now know can't meaning multiple cuts which isnt a problem at all, in fact it makes it easier to get the uniformed finish. It just adds more time/labour to the parts which will affect the price. But even with that said im pretty sure the price will be most acceptable to fellow enthusiasts.
Its all about r&d, not many other companies would post up pics of the progress like we do but hopefully people will get the jist of our work and the level's we go to ensuring our work is the best we can do, this heatshield itself would knock spots off a lot of other carbon products ive seen on other peoples cars at shows/meets etc, yet It will never leave our workshop regardless of certain people asking to buy it lol
Should have another one made this weekend if all goes well, but will have to see, still here now, baz, my dad and another mate have just left after helping me out big time with what appears to be a never ending pile of work.
Funny enough we are making a bonnet for an evo
Thanks for you input mate

that what I did with this one, the problem was the bit over the exhaust, as it becomes under vacuum the carbon is pulled back from the centre due to cuts which needed to be made, I was just hoping that it would not be very obvious, but I want it to look perfect so I will have to do it with 2 pieces.
The only downside is cost which is why I tried to do it the first way which would of been cheaper. We will see next week, anyway better leave the technical stuff now, can't be letting too many of the secrets out of the bag
Will have some door card pics Sat in the photo's section for your car should you be interested pal
