I've seen that carbon cage elsewhere, I'm not sure if its the same, but they do sell a T45 cage that simply have a carbon coating that its wrapped up in, so it is technically safe.

Few pics of the final shield for anyone interested,

@ jimbo, will drop you a text in a bit pal, the shield needs a polish but I think its turned out nice and neat with the weave uniformed, even where it is hidden by the zorst (I couldnt help myself)

Hi Jay,

yes mate hence the awful rough texture, not hardly prepped the mould as im pretty sure there will be a few revisions as to fitment etc depending on jims feedback so once the fitment has been confirmed the final mold will be treated so no finishing is required

you do know the heat is going to lift the laquer off that mate id be more inclined to polish the mold and use a high temp resin on that chap

@ Jay, wasnt aware of that and not tooi concerned as I stated before this is only for fitment purposes, once the fitment has been confirmed the final mould will be suitable for producing parts with a high gloss (or matt if required) finish which will require no further finishing other than trimming when broken out from the mould.

@ Ksa - started prepping it but to be honest not done too much, have had to channel our efforts onto other composite areas which we have to keep close to our chests at the mo but it will be sorted, if you need it back mate let me know but if you can bare with us pal it will be worth it.

@ Cochyn - no problem mate, im getting used to being stood up by you xx lol Like I say I may be producing some new serious parts which you may be intereted in!! nudge nudge wink wink

Thats a bit harsh my little strawberry blonde supple dumpling!!! in my diary it you that owes me so less of the twat and more of the super duper furry coating composite king please!! lol

Also working on a carbon tubular inlet for a customer which again is very relevent to this cage theory which has been bouncing about a few posts above, relevent in the sense of how the tubes are fabricated and finished etc

Don't be so mean

Ah mate that sounds cool, I've been knocking up a few bits n' bobs lately too, but inlet's are quite a difficult one, in regards to which being the best and free-flowing. My mate knocked this up for his Zetec Turbo build, similar to the one I made years back, but has since dropped the idea and no longer needs it But made out of carbon I'd be wary, some fail

Looks very smart that Al mate, the one I have been working on is for a N/A application so doesnt see positive pressure, the inlet we are looking into for blown applications will be purely for motorsport i.e. the shape of the taper (if using one) and the plenum in general will be designed for a certain flow velocity where the engines optimum power is.
But this is only me messing about with some modelling at the mo playing with different plenum designs and running simulations etc, people seem to be designing all sorts of different plenums with all sorts of tapers, but at what velocity are these efficient to all 4 cylinders etc, im getting carried away here lol, its all theory at the mo but you get my drift of thinking. In a nutshell, for my engine, if its producing max power between 5000 and 7500 rpm then the plenum will be designed for giving as even and free flowing air to all cylinders at these velocities, but at the same time being safe and drivable at lower rpm. Im no engineer so take this with a pinch of salt, its for my car so its only experimental at the mo, I just hope my theory is in the correct direction

Good man, you can think all day long, just get cracking with it and rectify any short comings. The first inlet I made I didn't port match the flange, so its was a little all over the shop in comparison to when it was matched. Amazing what little tweeks do here and there

design it so theres no seams or the overlap is massive.

Thing is its quite easy to build a manifold that will take X level of boost, the difficulty comes with measuring the fatigue impact of shock loadings, vibration, rapid boost changes etc.

Sorry for the late update,

things are just so busy at the mo with 8am starts and early morning hours finishing getting on here has been an in-frequent luxury. Anyway, Jimbo has received his heatshield along with his other carbon bits and has confirmed the shape needs adjusting arounf the exhaust lip, jimbo is going to help develop the final product to ensure a snug fitment, also may incorposrate some protective heat material
