ecu change from l6 to l8
Hi all
This is really a follow on from my previous question (re smoking cossie).
How much better is the l8 4x4 ecu over the l6 ecu? Is it worth the change, or is it better to just dump it and go for a complete aftermarket?
Your thoughts please!
JJ

i dont think you would be able to notice the difference between a correctly mapped L6 and L8, the only advantage of the l8 (IIRC) is that is has more memory and therefore can have more load points than the l6....

As Dave said, L8 has twice the memory capacity of L6. The L8 can also do closed loop fueling which is the only mod on a Cossie which will actually save you money instead of costing! L8 has facility to part control the air con (on the late Sapphire).

Ford Sierra/Sapphire Cosworth 4x4 non-Cat
Sierra/Sapphire Cosworth 4x4 Cat........
As per Weber-Marelli MPi Technical.........
and......
"Can be recognised by not having mounting flanges and a green or red label with WD48.08.
The one with the green label and second code IAW048/01 is for the catalytic convertor (US83) model.
The one with the red label and second code IAW048/02 is for the non catalytic convertor (15/04) model."

No......
The Red Top 4x4 engine used the Red Label WD048 where the system basically operates as the Red Top 2wd engine albeit with the ECU differences of the L8, but the Green Label WD048 used the Closed loop addition within the Ecu and the addition of the Lambda on the exhaust.
So to be clear, Green label Ecu will run closed loop in conjunction with the Lambda (and has previously unanswered possibly the loom too), whereas the Red Label WD048 runs without as standard as the Lambda in not enabled.
Stu@Msd can add the additional Mod to make the Red Label Ecu run closed loop if you are stuck with a red Label ecu.
Hope that helps.
