Default huming from s2 rearend

hi on the way back from holiday yesterday my rs started to hum from the rear .it can only beheard from 35-40 mph upwards. i've noticed the rear brakes are as hot as the front wheels when i took a slow drive down the shops earlyer.could this be wheel bearings as i needed new wheel bearings for the mot in april as they had movement.could the garage just bodged them to pass? as my rs has only done 2500miles since then.or do wheel bearings ware more if the car is lowerd -60mm on 17" wheels

many thanks

Could be wheel bearing's take them out and pack them with grease see if that stops it if not it could be where you got it to low

Not that hard a job if your handy with the spanners no special tool needed. take the hub off and you will see the cap that covers the bearing theres a big nut you need to undo i think it's a 23mm not 100% sure and then you will see the bearing take it out and pack the hole with grease and smear some round the bearing then put it all back together and see if that works if not it's probley where it' to low. DONT GET ANY GREASE ON THE BRAKE SHOES

wheel bearing do tend to wear faster when you put bigger wheels on due to the extra strain they put on the hubs....or so im told.....packing my hub with grease didnt solve my problem and the bearings looked like new so i changed them anyway and the problem was solved. have you tried putting it on full lock while not moving and checking the clearance between the tyres and wheel arches as it may be rubbing? good luck with the ~MOt~ Lets hope its not an expensive one.

Sounds like a bearing problem,
Jack the back end up and spin the wheel if the bearing is worn you will feel a vibration through the spring, you can compare each side.
Also dont be tempted into greaseing them as that will do nothing if the bearing is worn the damage is done,
Also if your better of getting somone who knows what there doing to help or do it for you, as the bearing is what holds your wheel on, you dont what to get it wrong as if it fails at high speed you will be in a lot of trouble

Very true deformed tyres can cause this noise, but jacking and spinning while spot this.
