Default knocking cossie engine

has anyone experienced a knocking tapping noise coming from the engine? it sounds a bit like the valves tapping the pistons but it aint. i replaced the whole bottom end in one go and the whole top end , set the timing up started her up and the noise is still there .
is there anything electrical that could couse the timing to be so far out that the engine sounds like a transit van? cheers for any help

have you timed it up right using the post to line up with the TDC mark on the bottom pulley and NOT the groove just behind it - very easy to do.
