Default smooth running problem

hi folks any one got an idea as to the solution to the following problem.96 N escort cosworth totally standard apart from induction kit and cat removed.on de-accelloration ie lifting foot of pedal the car judders and sometimes the revs drop right down and even stalls at times. on acceleration the boost comes in until roughly 3500 rpm then (although the gauge reads full boost) feels like it is just a 2.0 ltr car with no turbo. have changed plugs filter ect.the car runs perfect when on choke so im thinking it could be a fuelling problem.CHEERS in advance

have checked them there in good condition.have been wrapped in polythene to stop the water getting in.but took it off to check anyway and all pins in clean good condition so sprayed some wd40 in and reconected and re covered.but thanks for advice.have noticed one of the pipes coming from amal valve that went to the old airbox is still in situ but obviously now just venting to air could that be anything to do with it as it would normally be recirculating back into air filtr box if fitted

there should be a connection on the induction kit to plumb the pipe from the valve backinto it, but it shoudn't affect running just venting to atmosphere.

As Dave said the amal valve to airbox won't affect running as its such a tiny amount of air that gets vented. Have you still got the original reciculating dump valve and is it connected up as per norma?

sailor bob- its an 96 n small turbo model so there is no dump valve fitted
bonmaklad- does stall occasionally when i stop but the stuttering is mainly on lift off the pedal it feels as if for some reason there is a shortage of fuel for a split second.
THANKS to all for advice its appreciated cars is getting rolling roaded on monday so hopefully that will sort the problem out and ill inform you all if thats the case

Looking at the small cat should be worth a try, a visual check will reveal if its clogged up.

apparently, to reset the small turbo ecu, all you do is disconnect it from the loom for a few mins, then have to do its relearning asper in the workshop manual:

get it up to normal running temp, disconnect the ecu for a coulpe of mins, the reconnect and let it idle for 2 mins, increase the revs to about 1200, and hold there for a further 2 mins, the drive for about 5 miles varied driving to complete the learning sequence.

Cheers dave what will that do though?? i totally have no idea as to the workings on this car.so i have no idea where the ecu is i purchased a cd manual off the internet but it is like trying to find a needle in a haystack finding what you want as it is mixed in with large turbo and sierra models. i have the red key does that do anything with ecu as the previous owner said it resets every thing and only to use it in emergency
cheers for help mate

that will clear any fault from the ecu that its holding, and you need to relearn it otherwise it will drive and run like a bag-o-wank apparently

removing the ecu power will clear its fault codes adn it KAM (keep alaive memory) included in thsi are its idle and drive values, unless these have been re learnt properly it may still run crap even though there is nithing phisically wonrg or broken anymoe, ie, if the garage found a fault and fixed it, they may not have re learnt its idle and drive values....

Just disconnecting the battery will do the trick, no need to hunt out the ecu. Leave disconnected for at least 10 minutes.

a haa!! the only problem with just the battery is u loose you rradio presets, the ecu is vaey easy to get to IMO, just at the side of the assenger footwell, the panel pull soff and the ecu is just slidup there, pull it out, and disconnect easy.

HI Juss,

Check all the hoses to and from the turbo to the inlet manifold including, the intercooler, for any loose hose's and also for vacuum air leaks, make sure your exhaust is free from any leaks before lambda sensor as will give problems to the lambda sensor to ecu, make sure your sensor's
connections are sound.im not sure with small turbo what fault codes it records weather throttle switch,? as large turbo covers 9 faults, doesent
cover tps.
