Default Diff backlash ?

I seem to have a lot of play between the wheel and the prop turning,is this classed as backlash. Its really noticable in traffic when i'm pulling away, you can hear it juddering, also have a paddle clutch, which i don't think helps. The diff doesn't whine, and feels smooth other than that. Can i adjust this in situ,or do i have to remove the diff ?
cheers all
Matt

Back lash is movement between the crown wheel teeth and pinion teeth. You feel it by holding the prop flang still then rocking the crown wheel to feel the movement

Is it a cossie diff? If it is I would whap it out and send it to Bara Motorsport for a refurb and set up.

In a 2wd kit I would be looking for him to adjust the diff ratio to lower the gearing if possible, perhaps?

Is that due to the kit construction? It's easy on a cos.

You could pick up a 2nd hand one cheap have it built and swap it out all at once and keep the other as a spare or sell on. I let mine go for Ł50 and it seemed fine.

There cheap diffs. If it don't leak oil and still works as a lsd forget about it. If you can remove the back cover then you can adjust the back lash you adjust it by moving the side bearing adjusters in and out to move the crown wheel closer or further away from the pinion gear to increase or decrease the back lash which is how the teeth mesh between the two

Make sure it's not the CV joints on the driveshafts that have some play. In my opinion that is more likely the cause than the diff.

It's not the cv joints, def inside the diff,no leaks or noises ,just feels like it tramps when you pull away.the rear cover is easy to get of in situ.

The pinion and planet gears look pretty good, movement wise, not measured it yet, hardly anything i'd say,but its the planet gears that seem to have a lot of movement on their shafts,up/down/left right,
