FUEL PUMP OR FREAK RST PROB
ON WEDNESDAY I WAS DRIVING AT 40MPH WHEN THE CAR JUST CUT OUT MID DRIVING JUST DIED, I ROLLED IT TO THE KERB AND IT JUST TURNED OVER WITHOUT WANTING TO GO
.
THE CALL OUT PEOPLE ASKED ME TO TURN IT OVER WHICH I DID, THEY SAID IT SOUNDED LIKE NO PETROL WAS GETTING THROUGH.
HE RECKONED IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP AND GAVE THE CAR A BOOST FROM A BOOST PACK FROM UNDERNEATH THE CAR WHICH GOT IT GOING.
TODAY IVE GONE OUT AND THE BATTERY IS AS DEAD AS THEY COME. NO DASH LIGHTS NOWT.
AFTER CHARGING IT I DROVE THE CAR AFTER 4 DAYS, I SPEED UP IN 3RD AND IT CUT OUT, I MANAGED TO JUMP IT IN 2ND AND DRIVE TO THE GARAGE.
THEY RECKON IT ISNT THE FUEL PUMP AND CANT EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPEND AS I DROVE HOME 6 MILES WHEN I GOT THE BOOST PACK TO START ME UP. THEN STARTED AND DROVE TO THE GARAGE.
THE MECHANIC SAID IF THE FUEL PUMP WAS GOING I WOULDNT START LET ALONE BE ABLE TO DRIVE IT.
SINCE THEN I HAVE STARTED IT EVERY DAY AND DRIVEN AROUND THE BLOCK BOOSTING IN 3RD NO PROBS AND GETTING INTO 5TH GEAR.
HAD THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY CHECKED, AND THE STARTER WAS REWIRED LAST MONTH.
IM STUMMPED, MY TAX IS DUE TUESDAY, SHOULD I SORN IT TILL JUNE AND GET A PUMP AND RELAY AND HAVE THEM DONE.???
OR CARRY ON DRIVING AND PRAY??

HAVE GONE OUT TODAY TO RISK IT, GOT SOME PETROL AND HIT THE BYPASS,
I GOT TO 80MPH OVERTAKING WHEN THE ECU CUT IN AND ARCHED THE CAR CUTTING IT OUT, IT WOULDNT JUMP IN ANY GEAR.
AS IT ROLLED TOWARDS STOPPING AT 5MPH THE REVS SHOT FROM 0-2RPM,
I SAT FOR A FEW MINUTES THEN DROVE AROUND THE ROUNDOBOUT WHEN THE CAR CUT AND DID THE EXACT SAME THING BEFORE CUTTING DEAD AT THE LIGHTS.
IT STARTED AFTER 10 MINUTES, I TURNED THE BOOST DOWN TO 10PSI AND DROVE TO MY MUMS AND THEN HOME WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS.
FUELLING????.......HIGH BOOST????

Ive had similar probs when the alternator intermittantly stops charging,it more so provocable in high gear high load situations.
A m8 has had a similar prob with his s2 with the alarm cutting the fuel pump every know and then,i suspect that could be a wiring fault somewhere.
Also check the main live down to the starter,make sure it hasnt rubbed through the sheathing and is not earthing out on the block or as it cross the gearbox.
As for overboost you will get full cut if theres too high a pressure and or the inlet temp is too high.

WELL I TOOK THE CAR OUT, RUNNING FINE, WAS QUITE HAPPY WHEN...........CUT OUT.
4 HRS IN THE BURNING SUN......500 YARDS FROM THE FISHING LAKE I WAS HEADING FOR, I WAS UP FOR A GREAT SPOT OF CARPING.
CUSS CAR CAME OUT AND LUCKILY IT WAS A FORMER RS OWNER WHO CAME.
FOUND I HAD NO SPARK, TRIED TO SORT IT FOR AGES ALSO OIL IN THE DISTRIB CAP. WENT TO TOW ME WHEN THE CAR TURNED OVER.
FOLLOWED ME FOR 4 MILES BEFORE SHE CUT OUT AGAIN.
FOUND CORROSION IN THE COIL AS WELL AS NO SPARK, TOWED ME HOME WHERE MY CAR STARTED UP.
SO NEW DISTRIBUTER BODY....£85.....NEW COIL...????
THEN HOPEFULLY SHE WILL BE OK.
