Default Starter wire from ignition amp value

does anyone know roughly how many amps come from the starter wire on the crank position and goes to the solenoid on the starter?

Is a pretty hefty cable

Is a sierra 4x4 cosworth

I asked the question years ago and got no reply so I measured it with a basic metre and got around 10a but with a much larger initial spike.

As said an ammeter/DMM would confirm.

Main wire from battery is about 120 Amp when cranking, typical starter is about 1.4 kW so fed with 12 Volts would see about 116 Amp. I think the wire form the ignition switch to the solenoid is about 6 square mm (2.75 mm diameter) so it can carry about 47 Amps.

Your talking about the starter, the solenoid is much smaller.

if you re talking about starter it s high current my amm metre (hall effect) reads to 30a and it's maxed out on "click" then drops to around 20ish amps on a small 1.2l clio so a higher compression engie or bigger cc more current.

on a 1.8l endura diesel it stays maxed out all the time selfstarter spins.

if it's for the starting solenoid it's lower current 10 ish or whereabouts i think, but never tested that
