Hi Everyone.

As described above i have a problem with the rev counter on my Series 2 Escort RS Turbo. Ive just recently done a EFI conversion but the rev gauge is almost showing half of what it should be so 4k is reading 2k on the counter.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Im running EFI clocks aswell.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

You can either change one of the pins on the edis or get a diode fix put on the signal wire

Yeah mate i heard about the pin change but seems like alot of effort when you could do the diode fix of the signal wires. Has anyone got any more infor on this? Thanks

Best bet would be to ring MSD and ask, as I'm sure their cossie wasted spark kits include tr diode fix. Maybe they could supply one seperate?

Or ask around on here see if anyone has one left over from a wasted spark install, might get a bargain :thumb:

Couldnt you just buy the right diode and wire it in as its only a two terminal component that allows electricity to flow in one direction only and blocks the flow in the opposite direction or is there a special kit that is needed?

it's not a single diode, it's a few resistors and diodes and such wired up in such a way that it doubles the incoming pulse. Going down Maplins and buying a diode won't do shit.

The problem you have is that (EFI or not. that whole EFI or RS1600i clocks will work thing is a myth) the clocks are calibrated for a single coil system which sends a signal pulse for each spark. Wasted spark systems have 2 coils (on a 4cyl) so each coil fires once for every 2 sparks, and the signal comes from only 1 coil so the signal pulses are half as often as a dizzy based system. Hence your clocks will display half of true rpm.

Found this DIY guide:

http://www.gadgetjq.com/tach_install.htm

Looks like it essentially takes 2 copies of the same signal then joins them together to effectively double it. hope that helps

I'd heard that too, isn't 11 supposed to be a clean tacho output? Never known anyone use it

I suppose its a quick easy job but weather it will work on mine is another question lol so do i do the pin 11 fix or the diode setup fix?

I just tagged the green rpm wire to pin 11 and worked perfect

Whats the best way of doing that mate? Do you take another wire from the green wire from the back of the clocks and go to pin 11 or what? Cheers fella

You have to drill the multiplug and add another pin to it?
Or physically join the pins on the actual Edis?

Ive drilled the hole in the multiplug to add the extra wire.
Going out in a min to run the wire and see what happens. If i don't come back... it went up in smoke lol

Well, I tried it, disconnected the old speed signal wire, run one from pin 11 still through the filter to the tacho and I had nothing at all, dead rev counter!

You sure your rev counter isnt faulty, mine works just at half of what rpm it should be so almost like not a strong enough signal. Im going to try mine tonight or tomorrow. Will let you know when ive done it

It reads half when wired up from pin 10 mate, just when I feed the rev counter from pin 11, so the rev counter is fine, just the pin 11 mod didn't work, I still went through the original filter before the rev counter though so maybe that's why? Couldn't be arsed to take the clock out though ( the filter is screwed and earthed behind the clocks )
