it's not a single diode, it's a few resistors and diodes and such wired up in such a way that it doubles the incoming pulse. Going down Maplins and buying a diode won't do shit.

The problem you have is that (EFI or not. that whole EFI or RS1600i clocks will work thing is a myth) the clocks are calibrated for a single coil system which sends a signal pulse for each spark. Wasted spark systems have 2 coils (on a 4cyl) so each coil fires once for every 2 sparks, and the signal comes from only 1 coil so the signal pulses are half as often as a dizzy based system. Hence your clocks will display half of true rpm.
