Default I need your help, MTX75 on Focus ST170

Hello!

Sorry for my bad english, i am from France!

I drive in rally with an ST170, but my gearbox Getrag6 is too long and Quaife gearkits are too expensive for me.

A friend give me a MTX75 gearbox from a Focus zetec 2.0 16v, more short than the Getrag. It's a Mtx75 with a command by cables.

What part i have to change, for fitting the MTX75 on my Focus ST170?

Driveshafts?
Gearcables?
Flywheel/Clutch?
Other parts?

Thank you very much for your help!

you will need to change every think you have listed. you will need the mk1 focus shafts the gear cables are also different so you will need the ones out of the mk1 focus.. the st170 uses a duel mass flywheel and has a clutch that will nor work with the mtx box so you will need the mk1 focus flywheel clutch ect.

the hydro clutch line differs as well as the gearbox top mount and the back mount

Think you'll have to run focus Rs hubs aswell if you want to run decent breaks. As normal focus hubs have the slider built in.

Hello wrc62!

I own ST170 and use it only for racing, trackdays etc, stock Getrag is too long and slow for me too so I'll do the same conversion soon... I already bought MTX75 with 4.06 final gear ratio and Quaife LSD.

As far as I know we need:

clutch/flywheel
gear selector and cables
driveshafts
maybe starter?

but what about vehicle speed sensor connected to the gearbox? It's different for sure and it will make some problems, did you think how to solve them? Do you use standalone management or stock ECU?

Hi, I am also doing this conversion, I have a ST170 I use for circut racing in Australia, I have a Quaife dog gear set I am going to fit to the MTX75, Please keep me informed with what progress you have made, I will pass on any information I can help with. I am looking for a good quality alloy flywheel and race clutch, if you know of any brands that fit please let me know.
Cheers Paul

Hello Paul,

It took some time but it's done, I can confirm that MTX-75 gearbox will work in ST170 All you have to change is:

clutch/flywheel
gear selector and cables
driveshafts
gearbox

I used lightened flywheel from stock Focus 2.0 Zetec:

but you can use an alloy one from CFM:

there are some clutch or clutch/flywheel sets too.

The only issue after swap is speedometer readings are 3,6 times lower that a real speed so be carefull

Some onboards from my car after swap (training sessions):

and have a look how we race in Poland:

How is your conversion?

Please share some more info about your car and your setup for circuit, what suspension, brakes, tyres, aerodynamics mods etc do you use? Please show how you race in Australia!

If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

Cheers,
Michal

Sorry to bring this up....but isn't there a way to have the speedo reading right? Like putting the speed sensor for the MTX75 gearbox?

The "Jaycar speedo corrector" will adjust the signal and read correct.

Hi Michal, Sorry for the delay in responce, conversion was no problem, I used the Clutch masters alloy flywheel and tripple plate clutch,Quaife dog gear set conversion. I have the Bilstien coilover kit in my car, very happy with it, handles quite well. I have fitted cross drilled rotors and use the standard calipers with ECB yellow stuff pads, I have a willwood pedal box. We have a control tyre in our class which is Yokahama AO50 225/45/17, excellent tyre but expensive here. I will post some incar when I work it out, but here is some pictures.
