VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) it's fitted to the box, not not particually difficult to replace.

this happens on focus and fiesta as well but is caused usually by the clutch switch on those

Thank you Martin and Botters
Will have a look tomorrow and try and get this sorted, always seems to rev up in the middle traffic and clouds of black smoke for and instant, a bit embarrassing but would like to sort it ,
Thanks again

Is it a diesel, and when you say it revs up, does it rev flat out, black smoke and knocking from engine?

If so -There is a capsule on the diesel pump with a long thin pipe that's connected to the turbo, inside the capsule there is a diagphragm, if it splits it can suck diesel through the pipe straight into the turbo

It's called a 'boost capsule' - from memory, it's not available from Ford, but seem to remember having one done by a local diesel specialist. CF Parkinson in Boston, Lincs.

Disconnect/block the pipe as a temporary measure.
