Pinto Engine help
iv just had some work done to my engine... here is the spec:
2.0l Bottom end with +60 pistons
ARP Rod bolts
High Pressure oil pump
Ported and polished Big valve Head
45.5mm and 38.1mm Single collet valves
Newman 4.5 Cam
Padded followers
10.75.1 CR
Lynx Manifold with single 48 Car
4-2-1 Manifold and full exhaust system
What sort of power would you exspect that setup to make?
Iv had it on 2 seperate rolling roads for tuning. All they seem to be able to get out of it is 100 at the wheels and 132Lbs Torque.
Does that sound about right? would you have expected more? What would you look into first?
Cheers lee

I cant be exact but my pinto is a 202 block, standard as far as i know, got a Kent cam fitted (apparently) RS2000 manifold, standard carb and i had that on the rollers the other day and it produced 90bhp to the rear wheels

100bhp @ wheels equates to apprx 130 at flywheel so not that bad a figure
Many factors can affect final "power" readings and I am sure that if you went to some rolling roads they could (without making any adjustments) give you a read out of 150 @ wheels by manipulating the rollers
As to achieve maximum potential from what you have listed you first need to ditch the single 48 and go for a pair of 45's (I understand you may not able to if you entering road rallies)
Have you got a vernier cam pulley ?
Is head "fully" ported and polished ? - ALL the power to be gained from a Pinto is in the head - the head work on my engine alone came to over Ł1000 excluding camshaft
Also your compression ratio is a bit low u need to aim for 11.5 and run on V Power fuel
The list is endless on what to spend your money on in the pursuit of power
Here is your camshaft spec - http://www.burtonpower.com/forp-284-474.html
Here is the cam I am currently fitting to my engine - http://www.burtonpower.com/kcht1ek.html

Thanks for the replys.. yea is has got a vernier pulley. That was my next question.. is there much to be had from swinging the cam timing? i dont know if either of the places too much attention to the cam timing.

They are for accurately setting the camshaft position in direct relation to the crankshaft position at a given degree ATDC (after Top Dead Center)
Some tuners may "play" with the vernier during a rolling road session to see if improvements can be achieved but generally you will find the camshaft manufacturer will already know the optimum setting and this is stated in the cam fitting instructions

Well I'm not looking for get anyone to take the engine apart really... I'm just wandering what peoples thoughts are about what it has and what it has made. Or is it worth me going to see someone else and have them tune it. Or am I just wastin my time and does that seem to be about the right power.
Cheers
