Default Focus T230 emission failure

hi, ive a 2002 Focus T230, recently failed the mot emission test due to CO being way above limit, this indicating it is running very rich, anyone have any idea the cause of this ?

also there is no catalytic converter in the exhaust system, this im certain is not the reason for high CO but just wondering are all the montune developed T230's without them ?

many thanks in advance for any help !!

ah well can work around cat prob if can get readings fairly near

low idle CO - 5.79% above 0.50% is a fail

high idle CO - 3.04% above 0.30% is a fail
Lambda 0.92 not between 0.95 and 1.09 is fail
HC - 178ppm above 200ppm is fail

as you can see CO is way to high, Lambda only slightly out, HC are ok

any ideas of likely prob ?

What signal is coming from the front Oxygen sensor?
Any fault codes present?

Do you have the CO2 and O2 numbers from the exhaust gas test?

These cars have non-Ford ECU as far as I'm aware, Pectel.

So diagnostics are not as easy....

going to check oxygen sensor when i get a chance in the next couple of days

yes it has pectel ecu along with the ford ecu, the pectel controls the engine management while the ford ecu controls all the rest of car

Even Pectel ecu's can be read. For codes and data.
You may need a tuner to do that for you.

I'm sure the fact that you're running no cat is the reason for the high readings, they're the sort of readings I get one mine with a decat.

Mine were well within limits when I had the sports cat on, so I'd say that's probably your issue.

Default t230

Hello , i also have a T230.

Been advised that they are supposed to run rich so pistons dont melt (unless you have forged bottom end then i wouldnt know).

I believe they have been mapped to run a cat if you wish untill then you have to find a 'friendly' MOT tester.

more advice and t230 friendlyness

Iam sure it's an mot failure now if your cars been decatted too even if it passes it's emissions.

I've got a T230 and like you say they came de-cat. Ive just purchased a sports cat so I can swing that in for the mot. I've found friendly test centres are far and few between. It'll be interesting to see how much effect the sports cat has. If its fine then I'll keep it in but being a turbo it might suffer...

Mines running decat (T190) so has to be "friendly" tester. Sure they should have one though as I asked Justin (had a mad T190 running 300+bhp) and he said they were mapped without hence no eml but need one for MOT. Couldn't see Mountune releasing a car that needs a cat without one tbh. Get some pics up of it though
