Default 2.0 blacktop head removal help!

Hi , I'm trying to remove the head from my 2004 focus 2.0 but I have a problem. I'm struggling to remove the head bolts. I've tried to crack them with a breaker bar but they just won't budge. Also are the 2 torx bolts, in between the spark plugs, head bolts as there a different size from the rest. any info would be much appreciated. Thanks!

There is 10 head bolts and none in between the spark plugs. I think they are water way plugs. When trying to loosen them you should try and have the shortest extension onyour bar as possible. Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot andi-p that's a big relief as I've rounded they 2 bolts trying to take them out. I will try the head bolts again tomorrow.

Do you need to take the cams off as I've left them on?

If you take the cams out you can use a short torx bit and can get more umph behind the bar

Hw did you get on? Its always easiest to remove the cams first. I think you can get to 8 out of the 10 bolts with the cams in.

Evening all, quick update.

I finally managed to remove the head tonight to then be greeted by 8 bent inlet valves, all because some idiot (me) didn't time the belt up correctly

Now I read some where that the zetec engine is supposed to be a non interferance engine. Is this true?

The zetec engine is an interference engine. What you have to watch is the timing as there is no keyways in the pulleys so the proper tools are required.
