Default P1666 fault code 55 transit connect.

With an endura di engine. Keep getting p1666 and p1000, had a search on here but only 1 thread came up. Where should i be looking to solve this? Had the crank sensor out and it 'looks' fine.

Van is only occasionally starting but cutting out right away most times. Other times it will rev up but the therevs jump about an it dies.

Any suggestions? Cheers.

P1666 iirc is a syncronization timing error, can be caused by faulty cam sensor on top of rocker cover. (if TDCI)

Ford modified them, and a good tip is to put a 12v ignition feed to the pin that is the 5v reference on the sensor, gives a better signal.

I think the modified sensor is grey and original is black, 90% sure on that. Long time since I fitted one.

p1000 is nothing to worry about, it just means that the OBD drive cycles or 'readiness' hasn't been carried out after clearing DTCs/disconnecting battery etc.

Oh........I thought a 55 plate would have one, weird! does it have any TDCI badges anywhere

Noticed you said endura di, but I thought it'd be too new for that.

No mate, no tdci badges.

I did a timing belt on a 55 focus a few weeks back that had the endura diesel engine in it aswell, ford must have been trying to get rid of the last few eh!

Any other ideas fella?

This is a TDCI Connect, you can see the sensor next to the blue bit in the centre of the rocker cover.

If it hasn't got a cam sensor, the timing error could possibly be a timing fault (cam belt) or crank to pump timing chain fault or something along those lines.

When you had the crank sensor out, did it look ok with no swarf or marks on it?

Could try a crank sensor and check the timing.

Have you tried running it on easy start?

If it will start on easy start chances are the timing is ok, if not you've got to look at a fuelling error.

Ran on easy start fella, and the idled itself. As soon as you rev past 3.5k it dies though and wont start. Fuel pump?

Looking like fuel pump, but as the code is a fuel pump syncronisation error (timing) I wouldn't jump to conclusions - one of the lads I worked with did a big engine job on a Connect once (oil leak behind the front cover)

When he built it back up it wouldn't start, after a lot (days of messing about) it turned out he had used the wrong crank pin to time it up!

If it was a Transit 2.0 / 2.4 with a P1666 that can be caused by a timing chain fault.
