Default turbo wont start/ overfuelling?

bit of a long story this one, it all started 5 months ago when i bought a s1 with a blown head gasket, repaired that and had some body work done etc, 3 weeks ago got the bits all back on the engine at it wouldn't start due to no fuel getting through, pump was running ok even linked out relay but no luck, changed the metering head and it started, running a bit rough due to high tickover and timing out but otherwise ok, adjusted timing (12'btdc) on friday afternoon and reset tickover to about 900rpm, running sweet stopped to disconnect timing light and then standard ford hot starter motor would not restart, left overnight and tried saturday morning fired but would not run, low fuel so off i go to the garage 2 gallons later noe have about 3rd of a tank of fuel, will it start will it ****

So i started from scratch put in a brand new set of plugs and checked leads etc, good spark on all 4
checked fuel non at first so stripped injectors out checked all ok then tried again , now have fuel and spark and timing should be ok but wont run? maybe lack of fuel pressure i thinkdue to crap in fuel hose so i took fuel line off where it enters filter and put into a jerry can, cranked engine over, shit loads of fuel went into the can and it started
how can that be with no pressure? it ran for about 10 sec then died obviously due to lack of fuel, so i reconnected all pipes etc and tried again, started on the key ran nicely for about 10 seconds then got slowly worse loads of unburnt fuel coming out of the exhaust and running like a bag of shit, better when revved but wont idle as soon as you try it just stalls and then wont restart unless i relieve the pressure from the fuel filter then it will start again

any ideas, i am going to take the ecu to try on a known good car in the next couple of days and will get a new temp sender from ford today, cant think of what else it can be but problem is defo fuel related, its also chucking black carp out the exhaust and plugs are going black very quickly

This is not a solution, but easier than releaving the pressure from the filter, is to just unplug the fuel injection fuse.

Anyhow, it is clear that it is overfueling. First unplug the cold start injector connentor. See if it made a difference, propably not. Then unplug the connector from the electromagnetic pressure actuator on the side of the metering head. Did you now got rid of the massive overfueling? If yes, then you have a sensor or fuel ecu problem.

i have actually tried unplugging the cold start injector that didnt make a difference i have also changed the pressure actuator but i'm not sure if that is in working order as well and again made no difference, i will try just disconnecting tonight and see what happens
cheers for that

That is normal actually. But why it will cut after a minute is weird, unless it just cuts out when the idle is taken down by the auxiliary air device when the engine warms up.

HI,
you need to check or have checked the fuel pressure,

havent checked fuel pressure but seems good, if anything its geeting too much fuel as plugs are sooty as hell, fitted a different metering head today of a good car and it ran fairly well for about 10mins until i tried to adjust timing and tickover, didi that and reconnected vacum pipe and it now wont tickover once warm, i have ordered various bits off ebay so will be fitting new dizzy, ecu's inlet manifold and metering head that way everything is different so unless i'm shit out of luck that should solve the problem

Sounds like it simply needs setting up to me.

The EMFPR is increasing the fuel mixture and the AAD is increasing the air allowance to instgate an idle speed. Once the AAD closes and teh enrichment stops she is cutting out.

Scenarios:
1) Electrical plugs on rear wrong way round totally.
2) Idle trim setting too low.
3) Air leak.
4) Mixture incorrectly set for this engine. (Likely rich as she runs cold)

None of teh above are hard to fix, so i wouldnt bewasting money on new parts just yet.

HI,
mfi? Still think fuel pressure is to high, about setup on car if you have the kit,
check fuel pressure system should be 5.65-6.0 bar and differential pressure(lower
chamber pressure) of the fuel distributor say system is 5.8bar, the lower diff presure should be5.5bar. if this is ok, check timing by eye if you cant run engine
look for any air leeks from the air sensor metering unit to the turbo and from it to
the intercooler and to the engine manifold, plug leads are on the correct way round, and the valve timing and sensors are all ok especially the coolant temp sensor for the ecu, and engine compression is good it should be ok get it warmed up and check co% and air sensor plate position and its not sticking,If this checks out maybe ecu signals.
