Default Cvh running problems

Xr3i efi

Misfires, stalls, no power won't rev!

Changed the crank sensor (new one)
Have good spark across all 4 new plugs
Changed the coil pack and map sensor. Checked pipes for air leaks.
Fuel pump primes as it should
Changed tps
Changed sensor in thermostat housing. Need to try air tempurture sensor, have one to try.

All sensors are off another engine and seem in good condition.

Plugs seem dry and black even tho they are new and you can smell fuel so it could be over fuelling?

What else can i check for its driving me mad!!

Started the car up this morning and it ticked over perfect! Left it for 5 minutes and it was fine so took it down the road and on the way back it started playing up again!!!!

It seems to pley up when it gets warm! Ive been told its the crank sensor although ive tried replacing this already!

What cold cause the problems when warm?

Did you have any welding done as part of respray?

Wondering if they've spiked your ECU by welding with battery connected?

If it was the ECU wouldnt it constantly play up or only after running for awhile?

get the ecu tested or repalce it.
if you want to fix it yourself its trial/error, if u dont want 2 mess about then give it 2 a garage 2 sort out & just pay the bill at the end.

Will a diagnostics test pick up a faulty ECU?

If the ECU was at fault then wouldnt it play up all the time and not just when its warm?

I read in the haynes manual that sometimes the ECU can reset itself and needs running back in? Anyone else ever had this problem?

when my bros car went wrong we took it in local garage with best diagnostics gear, they said ecu needed to be reset & it had 2 get sent off to be done, a week later it came back & car was ok. (Ł70 all in)

cant see why you cant buy a 2nd hand ecu from breakers/ebay for Ł10-20 & plug it in thou as not coded like newer cars

I don't mind a diagnostics test aslong as it finds the problem out.

I will try and get an ECU. Does it have to be off a car the same year?

Might be worth trying the air and water temp sensors for the ECU too, water temp is in the manifold above oil pressure sender.

I have a 1.6 cvh efi.
It has an intermittent fault.
Wehn it reachess 2000 rpm the engine dies back but will then pick up again.
Always at about 2000 rpm. When on positve throttle it carries on revving as normal but when over 2000rpm it dies back if there is the slightes throttle lift.
Any similarities here?
I have not had a diagnostic done yet but done simple checks
only so far.

My 1.6 cvh efihas a similar problem but....
Intermittently when it reaches 2000 rpm the engine dies back but will then regain and run, but dies back when 2000 rpm reached again
It runw well up this rev level and idles normally. I can poodle along up to 2000 rpm and no problems. Also, when on positive throttle it will go cleanly past the 2000 rpm but dies back at the slightest lift off.
TPS?
Spark is good and coil primary spot on - haven't checked coil secondary yet.
No vacuum leaks detected so far.
No diagnostic done yet - its Ford 3 - pin connection but haviing a hard time finding a diagnostic unit.

Hi All,

Just rebuilt the head on my 1990 CVH EFI and the Idle Control Valve (side of inlet manifold) was really gunked up. Would be worth taking off and soaking in petrol overnight to clean out. If this piston and spring is sticking or snagging it may not help. Easy check and worth cleaning if not done so.

Try a different map sensor and tps.
