Default Limp reving

Hi guys and girls my name is Harry and am just new to the place.

Unfortunately my first post is not a good one

I just purchased a 52 plate focus st170 very happy until I was driving along about 30 steady revs at about 2k then it was starting to what I think missfire, then on the bypass it would not pick up speed or revs, done a wee bit looking on hear already and I see alot of problems with the fuel pump, I am not the best when it comes to cars and was wondering if anyone can shed some light on the matter,

Much appreciated

Well a wee up date my engine management light came on and the fault code said it was the fuel rail pressure sensor so just going to order one up and see what happens

What did the fault indicate? maybe it flagged a rail pressure sensor because the rail pressure was low, the sensor may be working just fine.

You need to check the fuel pressure and reference it to the ECU data from the rail sensor.

Well my friend plugged in his tester and the only fault that came up was just the fuel rail pressure sensor, lucky my friend works for ford as a parts manager so I asked him to order me a new sensor plus coil pack as I know these go very often and if there is still a fault I will order a new fuel pump really hope I don't have to tho as I know they can be costly,

That is a costly way of finding the fault though as you may end up replacing numerous sensors that are not faulty at all,

Some in depth diagnoses would be a better option to actually find the fault.

Ye that's true I will run some fuel pressure tests, do u recommend any test to try? I know the fuel pump and modulator are common on failing

just measure the line pressure and see what it is, then see what the rail pressure sensor says you have.

so you're just goin to replace the fuel pump without even making sure it is that which is causing the problem
