Default Tightening top strut bolt

Anyone got tips on how to stop the strut spinning whilst trying to tightening the top strut nut?

Generally they have a hex or alan key fitting in there so either hold it with a hex key or if it doesnt then ive jacked them up before to try and get tension on there or put the car on the fllor and tighten. make sure your not cross threaded also. if not then tighten a small bit then back it off. repeat process till the desired tightness is required

Not on Gaz coil overs unfortunately, they don't have a hex slot.

There's a tiny lug at the top which is of course used to soften / hardener the dampers. I didn't want to tighten the main nut whilst holding this lug in case I damaged the unit.

just under that adjuster should be a round bit with two flats on it, or similar, use a spanner to hold that while tightening. If suspension is new it should come with these instructions anyway. If not post a pic of the top and someone can arrow to the bit you hold.

As stated here...my gaz shocks have 2 flats for a 10mm spanner.

Impact wrench would be another method.

Had another look and yes there's 2 flats for a 8mm spanner. The flats were hidden by there locking nut! Doh!

This would be fine for standard stuff tbh, my new suspension said to torque to specific amount, so i did. Although i believe once it's tight, it's tight so its not critical.
