Default Knackered Mk6 Gearbox?

Hi guys, first time poster - I'm a complete mechanic noob and I need some advice on my motor or Ford are going to bend me over a barrell! For info I've got a diesel 03 Fiesta.

I clipped a curb the other day and immediately afterwards I felt a bit of vibration. I thought it was weird so I pulled over and looked at my alloy - all was fine and I hadn't mountned the curb or anything so I thought nothing of it. As I pulled away and went to go into 3rd there was a crunch and now I can't select 3rd, 4th or 5th gears. 1st, 2nd and reverse work fine but in any of the others it's like I've left the car in neutral - the gearstick actually stays in place but the engine just revs like it's not in gear. It was also making a bit of a whining noise when I crawled it home in 2nd.

I haven't driven it since but I was really hoping one of you guys could help me work out what's wrong with it...Please help!

Cheers,
Matt

Could be a multitude of things, you not got a mechanic mate that could look at it for you? could be the gearbox itself or the linkage or cable.

Cheers for the reply chaffe and unfortunately no, I don't have a mechanic mate.

Is the linkage and/or cable separate for each gear (I'd be surprised if it was), or at least does 3rd, 4th and 5th have it's own linkage/cable that might have gone?

Cheers,
Matt

No i couldn't, but if i can work out what the problem is i can look around, buy the parts i need as cheap as is possible, then pay a mechanic cash in hand for his labour to fit them.

Better than paying mechanics prices on parts as well as their labour to work out what the issue is...

Drive to your nearest gearbox repair place, they will test drive your car and tell you for free if it's the gearbox, personally I'd be 99% sure it wasn't the box, more likely a issue with adjustment, the vibes may well be from a buckled alloy/wheel on the inside, or a weight fell off from the knock ?

How would a buckled wheel stop me from putting the car in 3rd, 4th or 5th gear when stationary?
