The fact that the hazzards work show the circuit is ok to the indicators, the power goes from a live source that is ignition switched to the indicator unit, so check there is a live at the indicator unit, this then goes out the indicator unit to the stalk, where it stops, as it is a dead end circuit, unless the stalk is put to left or right, where current will flow to the lights on that side, this causes a bi metallic strip to heat up, as it passes the current, it gets hot and bends away from the contact so breaking the circuit, it cools bends back and touches the contact again, passes current and the lights are on again.
This is how you get the on off, so check for power at the indicator relay from ignition then power out etc.

the hazzard lights work on the flasher relay

you will find that the most likely problem is the fuse for the indicators or the fuse box itself getting wet

the insides of the covers will tell you

change them anyway as i had a dodgy fuse once that no end of problem solving didn't turn up until we pulled it apart and you could see that there was a small crack in the joint so it was hit and miss it it worked or not

fuse 27 on the drivers side and fuse 45 on the passenger side is all that i can find as there doesn't seem to be a seperate feed for them, unless you can deciper connection C and E in the central fuse board which is what seems to feed the indicators
