Default 1.3 ohv valencia

hello!! my first post on here!!!

anyone know anything about 1.3 valencias??

i have a mk1 fiesta and have swapped the 1.1 valencia for the 1.3 that i found in a scrap yard..... trouble is, i dont know which cam is in it, it has a kent cam sticker on it, and it has been bored out +1.00 max overbore and was running on twin 40 dcnf's..

so, which is the most commonly used kent cam with this engine spec you think????? im not a expert at engines and need to get the timing set up reasonably good etc.......plus valve clearances for this spec engine if anyone can help me please??? i know dcnf's are a nightmare but i need to start from the basic timing and vave clearances first before i move onto the carbs...

many thanks in advance crazy

The cam may be a bog standard cam, despite the sticker, with the carbs being twin 40 DCNF this would be a full race spec set up, if it's a std 1.3, or even a cammed 1.3 it is massively way over carbed, as an example the std mk1 xr2 1300 has a 24/25mm venturi carb, you have 4 venturis in total of 32mm each, it won't work in a million years, but will cost the earth to run like a bag of shit, even 1 of 40 DCNF is to big by a long way let alone 2, I'd be taking the engine apart and seeing exactly what is what first.

hi, tabatha, thanks for the reply!
the mk1 xr2 is a 1600 though, and i personally know of a few mk1 fiesta 1.3's (supersports) running twin 40's (dcnf's and dcoe's) allbeit crossflow engines not valencia's like mine all been cammed though to cope.
and even a cammed 1.1 mk1 fez running twin 36dcnf's all run ok.. but i dont know anyone with a 1.3 valencia engine and which cams were most commonly put in them????

appreciate any advice or info

I don't think there's any such thing as a 1300 valencia. Valencia was 957 and 1117cc in the fiestas, with 3 bearing cranks, the 1298 and 1598 engines were kent crossflow with 5 bearing cranks, totally different engines. Later ohv 1300s were HCS engines, and different again. Certainly CVH kent cams are stamped on the end with their type, could be the same with crossflow cams? Not so easy to get to as on the CVH though! I would get the weber twinchoke which should be on the engine, be so much more reliable and economical. To use big carbs, an engine needs loads of other mods eg head, valves etc.

the 1300 is a xflow if its from the fiesta orignailly.
i think they do a 1.3 HCS in the Ka

are the exhaust ports evenly spaced or are there 2 together in the middle?

it is a 1.3 valencia from a mk3/4 escort.... essentially the same block as a 1.1 valencia from a fiesta but slightly taller and with the 5 bearings... inlet and exhaust ports are exactly the same as the 1.1....

spark plugs stick straight out, not like the crossflow 1.3 and 1.6 that the middle 2 plugs point outover.....

it is stamped 1986 which means its allready converted for unleaded... and stamped 13 !!

i have the old 1.1 valencia in my garage still to compare and they look exactly the same except for when you open it up (bigger cylinder bores) that relate to the sizes in the haynes for the escort engine but a bit bigger because of the max overbore it has...

there is such a thing as a 1.3 valencia... thanks for your replys people! its going to start a debate now isnt it?

Beg your pardon, I've just looked in escort haynes manual and found a 1300 5 bearing version, says it's very similar to the 1100 valencia, I didn't know that engine existed

its all about learning! i was thinking with the engine being nearly the same as the 1.1 valencia,, does anyone think that the performance cams used in the 1.1 could of been used in the 1.3 valencias?... or would this be pointless? would the 1.3 of had bigger cam to start with#?

Ok guys I got a confusing engine identifcation issue. Just bought a 1.3 ohv 2door mk4 estate right clean beauty. The block is cast 86bm6015ba, I have been told the BA means its a 1.6 ?..is this right?.... but the head is cast 86bm6090cc 23A, I have been led to belive the 86 is the yr bm is british manufactured 6015 & 6090 is part no ie block & head the ba is 1.6 but cant find any info on the CC part of the head code. The car was bought from a clasic car restorer so he could have thrown any parts together. Ive had this type of car and engine before and was far more responsive than this one. I would like to restore the car to factory condition but with subtle engine tune.
Can some one help identify what the hell is under my hood :-/ can I use unleaded???? Is there a better ohv engine that will drop in?..
Will work on the body and trim untill my engine worries are over
