Default RS Cosworth Steering column

Help

can someone tell me if the Sapphire Cosworth came with steering wheel hight adjustment??

The reason I ask, is that my 1988 2WD has, but after trying to refit he lower dash (car was bought already stripped), it doesnt fit around the steering column (height adjustment lever).

Does anyone know if I have the wrong lowerpart f the dash, or if the steering colmn has been changed in the past for a different model?? also the top of the dash seems to be a different colour to the bottom (tops like a dark grey and the bottom is solid black).

If its the latter, then i am probably going to have to cut the dash to fit as I dont really want to buy a new steering column.

can anyone with a saff leather interior post a picture of there dash board please.

thanks in advance.

Hi as far as I know no MK2 (Pre facelift) had the height adjustable steering, mine hasen't if thats any help. However the facelift models (So 4x4 should as well in theory) do have it they have a lever on the left of the steering column, the steering cowling as well as the dash is totally different and so is why your having problems.

The facelift dash also had a cut out in dash to accomodate the lever and also has a opening bin on the drivers lower facia wheras yours should just have like a speaker grill cut out in it?

Heres a photo of the lower dash, drivers side.

And the complete dash as it stands with the rake adjust on the steering column. The car is a 1988 2wd. So do i need a 4x4 lower dash? And the picture below shows the colour difference. Although its exagerated by the camera flash, it is two different shades.

Yes you have the correct dash for the car and that is why your having problems as the cars equipped with the adjustment have a different dash, I am not sure if the newer type dash would fit though as this along with the rest of the dash changed.

Yes as I said above then, thing is do you know for certain if a facelift dash will fit an pre facelift car, I.E are the fixings in the same place etc?

On facelift dash one of the fixing screws is inside that glove box you mention.
