Default MK6 1.4 Fiesta Fuel issues

Hi all,

I have a 1.4 MK Fiesta (2005 plate). Whenever is gets low on fuel, the engine will hold back when accelerating as though its spluttering. This only happens when I am running low on fuel. If I fill up the problem goes away.

I've replaced the sparks plugs and fuel filter, but still it persists. Any ideas?? Fuel pump???

Thanks,

Mark

Maybe the fuel tank breather prob, vacuum builds up as the fuel gets low? does it make a noise when you open the filler cap?

Needs a new cap then mate. Or drill a small hole in the excisting one (not advised)

Why the cap? You think the seal is knackered?

Also next time it happens, would unscrewing the cap slightly help?

i think it is air locked, yeah, next time it happens undo the cap and see if it cures it. If it does then the tank breather is blocked. You cannot empty the tank without air going in.

So it happened again this morning on the way to work when fuel was low. I got out and unscrewed the cap. Was fine for about 2 miles and it started again! Any other ideas?
