Default sierra v6

Hello lads.

I want to put a 2.9 v6 12v (scorpio engine) into a sierra.
On a megasquirt similar ECU with homemade manifold and some throttlebodies (any advice on which) it will be low budget, so I was thinking about bike TBs.
I want to use a MT75 manual gearbox.
Now I have got questions that you might be able to answer.

I would like a 2door sierra hatchback (or how ever its called, long rear side window).
have they ever been build with a mt75 gearbox? or would a mt75 box fit into a normal sierra tunnel to?
Will the sierra diff and driveshafts be able to cope with the torque of a v6?
Will the engine fit in by just making up mounts, or would I also have to cut the front end up.

Car will be for on the road, some questions might be stupid.
But I dont have the right car and engine yet.
I do have some engine knowledge and we have a dyno at home.

thanks in advance, greetings from holland

The first Sierra's were 3DR (This is all the Cosworth shell is based on) no 3DR had 4x4 so none had MT75.

I can't help you in telling you if the engine would fit in or not, at a guess I would say it would fit faily easily as there was V6 Sierras such as the 2.3 and the XR4I was a 2.8 V6, alot of people also fit the 24V BOB/BOA into them.

The MT75 box I know will cope as this is the same as the XR4x4 and the Cos 4x4 not sure on the driveshafts.

The driveshafts will cope no problem, I would change the rear prop joint to a CJ13 joint though, the std ones can crack/break up, engine fits no problem as well.
You'll pay serious money for a decent three door shell, but could use a xr4i shell, and convert to single piece rear window a lot cheaper.

hi there, the mt75 was never made for a v6 bell housing bolt pattern in rwd, only came in 4x4 guise. So unless you split a 4x4 box and a mt75 off of a late 2 litre dohc sierra and mate the two together, i think you will struggle with the box. For an NA v6 im sure the std type9 box in good conditin will cope with all your needs, if it becomes a problem you can always look into another solution, as for the engine and driveshafts etc, everything will work well and bolt together, the only difficult bit in the project will come when you come to put in high pressure fuel pump, lines, wiring, mounting your throttle bodies and wiring the ecu, then it has to mapped! its always the engine management side of things that holds up these projects, bolting stuff together is the easy bit! i would try finding a decent car first thou mate.
all the best of luck though

When the type 9's go above around 180bhp they ideally need mods specifically lubrication of the gears, as done by Janspeed etc on the V6 type 9's.

The engine certainly woulden't be to heavy.

This very engine was standard in the XR4I and in fact would be lighter or as heavy as a YB, there is not many engines that won't fit into a Sierra.

i think 180 bhp would be good going for an na cologne mate, like i said use the type9, if and when it developes a problem change it. I am in the process of putting a turbo 24v cosworth into a sapph, i will be using an mt75 for that as the torque will be in excess of 300lbft. Why not buy an xr4i? it has everything you want, if you wish you can improve on that. Sounds like you need to get a few bits together and go from there. all the best and good luck

there WAS a rwd mt75 v6 gearbox made. came in a lot of 93 shape granadas behind 12v engines. rare in right hand drive but fairly common in left hand drive cars, mine is from a polish granada, so chances are the op in the netherlands will have a good chance of finding one

if its a four cylinder 2.3 then it will be a different bolt pattern, all cologne v6 and 24v rwd have the same bolt pattern, definatly the stronger box, i have put 2 mtx75 boxes in mk3/4 escorts for the same reasons of reliability. i dont know why anyone persists with the old bc box, except its easy to just bolt in.
